So let's get this straight cotto requests a catch weight of 157 for a career middleweight who's average weigh in proximities say 158lbs and it destroys all legitimacy surrounding the title defense. Probably a cliche question for a boxing website but have you ever boxed? Question 2 do you truly believe the catch weight had more to do with cotto attempting to gain some sort of physical advantage or was it just a pure power move showing geales team who's in control. Having trained myself and experimenting in weight gain and loss the 1-2 pound difference is quite trival in the grand scheme of things. I'm pretty sure you can muster up more interesting character flaws for cotto....lol

I doubt Canelo cares about that title. History will show he was the lineal champ and WBC champ at 160 (if he wins). Legacy wise, he's actually fought way better guys than GGG has. And he's made and will continue to make more money as well. GGG should want to make himself available to fight Canelo. Canelo doesn't need GGG unless he wants to move up and take over at 160.

Just as I thought. You can't so you result to insults. That is the real sign of a simpleton.

Why'd the WBA and WBC strip Kostya Tszyu after he unified all the belts?

Come to think of it, Sergio Martinez was stripped of the WBC and WBO belts for some dumb reason too. Hey, look at that Carlos Monzon was stripped of a title. So was Hagler. Just who is good enough for these people?

Everyone gets stripped eventually. A lot of people on this forum are saying a man is nothing without his championship belt which is why I wonder if they'll say the same when it happens to triple G.

Really ???? You are comparing yourself to top level professional fighters who are cutting every drop of liquid possible and for whom even extra half a pound is a problem ? Very competent :nono

Actually that's incorrect. I was referring to a poster who explicitly said he would not class Golovkin as a champion of he got stripped.

Do you, CJ, and CST80 have each other on speed dial? maybe you're all the same person. Who knows, but here is what i do know, not you, me, or any sanctioning body, coach, or trainer get to decide what the man stepping into the ring ultimately does. If I'm the one risking my hyde, I'm the one deciding how and for how much, the days of managers and promoters getting the lions share of a purse are over. Do you honestly think that the wbc didn't know what they were doing in waiting this late to threaten and ultimately take the belt, they figured "hey, we wait until fight week and not accept his lower offer, he wont give up the belt right before the fight, it's money in the bank" Well guess what, it is money in the bank, just Cottos bank, not theirs. The hate is unreal, absolute disdain and disrespect to a fighter who I'm convinced that on more than one occasion provided some esciting entertainment for every boxing fan. Now you expect said fighter to go into what is certainly a dangerous fight against a stronger and bigger fighter for your need simply to see him battered. And on top your mad about the fact that he was too smart to do it, and as far as the lineal mw title, guess what , no amount of your whining can remove that from his legacy nor change the fact that he took advantage of an opportunity that has netted him millions of dollars. Even your precious GGG wouldn't pass up a deal like that, and I'm sure he could care less what you thought of it afterwards. Be real fans, not fanatics, enjoy the sport, give credit where it's due.

    And he got stripped.

As far as I know Hopkins is the only mane who never got stripped after a full unification.

It means this "fan" puts more value on the visual representation then the legacy of what the lineal championship is. Just ask him to explain which of the two has more history, the wbc belt or the lineal title.
