One of the worst opponents you could possibly choose for Cotto at 147.

    Basilio eats him alive.

    He's in another class entirely.

I guess I'm one of the few people that think Cotto would give Basilio trouble.

In the first few rounds I agree, but by the mid rounds Basilio would be chewing Miguel up.

have to agree. cotto fades, basilio doesn`t. by the mid round cotto would be jabbing and backing up, which leads right into carmen`s hands.

    Basilio TKO cuts 11

Cotto isnt' even a better boxer-puncher than prime Carmen on the outside.

basilio's skills and balance are highly underrated. When he wasn't in full on pressuring mode, he often fought like a more workmanlike Ortiz imo.

This. Take the worst possible stylistic matchup for the welterweight Cotto, and find one of the greatest fighters to ever fight that way.

Basilio does to him exactly what Margarito did. If you can put him on the back foot, take his power, and land consistently to the body, you can beat him. Basillio would do all the above and more.

For afive year period asillio was close to unbeatable, went 30 tough close rounds with Robinson, and was in 5 fights of the year. I also think he was fighter of year more than once. Cotto would not beat Robinson or the lesser known DeMarco. Basillio was one of greatest welters ever, all time.

Yes, but he was much more effective pressuring.

The rematch with Langlois is his best boxing display IMO.

    Man versus boy.

If you were trying to provide proof that the old timers were better than the current crop, you would probably use this match up as an example. "See, Cotto is perceived as one of the top current welters, imagine what Basilio would have done to him".
