Martinez' team obviously negotiated 160, but Cotto said no.

Why would Martinez voluntarily go to 159 if Cotto would agree to 160?

 

Martinez obviously knows who the money in this fight is..

Read the article.....Martinez's team initially came in with the 154 lb offer....then they decided on the 159 lb.

I recall Cotto's team saying they would not ask for any catchweights and according to all sources it was Martinez team that asked.

In Face Off Martinez while bitching said Cotto made a lot of stupid silly demands, but the demands that could of hurt him...Cotto didn't make which was a lower weight that would have caused me to damage my body.

Martinez said that with a puzzled look....


Anyways...who cares....get it ON!!!!

I think you guys need to take into consideration the fact that requesting 1lbs catch weights can also play a role in capturing a physiological advantage during negotions that can spill over into the fight. Solidifying your dominance at the negotiating table can only help you leading up to the fight. Your basically saying your the alpha male and it can trickle into you mentality when preparing for a fight devising a strategy etc, etc any pre fight info you can use to get one up on your opponent.

 

Maybe just me, but I think the "Sergio can't run" probably convinced Cotto more than any catchweight.

 

I personally cant wait for this one. Ill be ordering it. Wont be a blow out like a lot of esb members think.

 

if martinez' team was smart...he'd be a much bigger draw than what he is currently. i'm not surprised they offered up the catchweight. it shows thier lack of understanding when it comes to negotiations.
