wow... i just gave you the links to what a catchweight really is, and you still can't figure it out?

hugger? i didn't even twist the definition, it is what it is. if you are dense enough to think that an imaginary fight between pac and cotto at 140 is a catchweight, i can safely say that you are mildly ******ed.

even if what the threadstarter said really happens, it's alright.

it has been a magnificent 13 year run, a wonderful career, a career that 95% of active fighters today only dream of.

if pac's career abruptly ended right after he won the wbc 112 title back in 1998, i would still have been super proud of the young kid.

it has been a fruitful, exciting and a magical ride for me.

This is the explanation of a catchweight fight.

Recent examples of catch weight fights include the second fight between [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jermain_Taylor"]Jermain Taylor[/ame] and [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly_Pavlik"]Kelly Pavlik[/ame], which was fought at a catch weight of 166 pounds and the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Trinidad"]Felix Trinidad[/ame]-Roy Jones, Jr. fight, which was fought at 171 pounds."

Read the part in green.... if you have half of brain you will understand what a catchweight is......

Pac was a 135 lbs fighter and Hoya was a 154 lbs fighter, they met somewhere in between (147 pounds) which is called

and that limit isn't Hoya's weightclass limit, which by the way is 154 pounds.....

You guys are arguing semantics in a sense. Here is a common definition for catchweight that I looked up online:
contest in which normal weight categories have been waived by agreement

but really it is supposed to mean two guys meeting the middle of their respective weight classes but you can also say, if you want, that any fight at an agreed upon weight class weight is not a catch weight, however, that distorts the real meaning if the term if you don't include those, I think

if both guys fight at the same weight class and they both come in over, its not a catch weight its only a catch if they meet in the middle

I don't want any of these fighters retiring the other. These are two of the best in the sport, definitely a thrill to watch. I just wish they would continue fighting.
