Maybe he's referring to the way his contemporaries like Manny Pacquiao are embraced by their compatriots. It borders on mass hysteria, really and that's what's missing with Cotto.

He ain't sweating that ****! He is LOVED in NY and thats where he makes his butter, I shell out a couple of hundred dollars a year to see him live every year and he consistently sells 20,000 seats. I will continue to support him win or loose until he retires! I love his personality he is a warrior and he should not change a thing, he has no need to pretend to be someone he is not.

    Palante Cotto!

He's just as real as they come.

Why the **** would he play something he's not when he's making millions of dollars doing his thang? :smoke

^THIS. BTW, Cotto is very well liked in PR as much as the rest of the world, it just so happens that he's more of a hero for the ricans that live outside (nuyoricans) than inside the island, nothing extraordinary to me... I've noticed a few ppl that bash him here in PR are not real fans that follow the sport consistently.

Him & the media outlets here r not best friends and that may be the roots of all this controversy... media can make a lot for someone's image!

I don't think its the personality that's the problem, I think he's in Tito's shadow.

I'm Puerto Rican and I find it sickening how full of **** people in Puerto Rico can be. Bunch of drama queens and sensitive **** offs. Since when has boxing been a miss congeniality contest? Great on Cotto for putting this **** out there because I really was hoping he would do this some day. Forget the critics, and trust me Cotto has plenty of PR fans on the island and in the usa, not to mention the majority of hardcore fans.

    THIS

Well said.:deal That is basically the problem here. People need to get the **** out of an athletes personal life and let him do what he knows how to do and thats be an athlete.
