Cotto gained more respect from me even with a loss to Manny. Great boxer and great person. I will surely watch and follow his future fights. :good
he defo needs a rest and maybe two tune ups and fight winner of mosley/berto and then rematch margo - but that will be a really tough fight I was watching margo/williams last night and the guy is a beast kept coming forward smiling i scored that fight a draw with the first 6 rounds 5-1 to williams and the last 6 5-1 to margo. Margo took so many punches - many blocked - and his face hardly looked touched!!!!! But when he fought mosley Im sure the cotto fight also took its toll on him hence shane's raw power to tko him what a fight and I have to say margo has a iron chin! cotto would really have to fight clever to beat margo IMO and Im a cotto supporter
Cotto should retire..... there is nothing for him at 147.... the only meaningful fight he could get is a rematch with Margarito, and I think he will lose again. I don't understand why people think that Cotto is actually a great fighter... he is a good fighter but not a great one... any boxer who loses the way he lost against Margarito can't be called a great boxer....
I'd like to see him back and winning. No shame in losing in a brave effort against one of the best fighters in the World. He actually looked good in patches and did better than Hatton and DLH.
but that isn't really how things are judge are they my friend? I mean does that mean mosley who got beaten by cotto make him worse than the one who beat him? Or how about how duran go beaten by hearns? That was IMO one of he worst if not THE worst ko's in the history of modern day boxing. Does that manner of losing make him a non-great fighter? I would say more than just a lose to a machine like margo or a beast like pacman it is cotto's lack of discipline in those fights and lack of adaptingand using ring smarts which can maybe be argued he isn't a great, world-class champion-elite yes just on the fringes of greatness for a boxer but not quite there yet
he should defo have collazo as a good level tune up, and berto after he loses to mosley(I think so anyways) and then mosley rematch if he still around if he fights hatton (either one of them) then he will be wasting his time and not be ready at all for margo
exactly, cotto has a lot left in him, with a good trainer and some style and mental training adjustments, he will be at the top again soon and set some big paydays, heck he can even rematch pacquaio at 147..
Mosley lost a fight against Cotto but it was a very close fight... This content is protected .... I am pretty sure that Cotto would have never beaten the version of Mosley who fought DLH the first time in 2000. Regarding Margarito, I would say that he will never be among the best welters ever.... same as Baldomir... so, losing to Margarito doesn't make a boxer great... You mentioned Cotto's lack of discipline... well let me tell you that that is exactly part of being great.... you have to be focuss all the time in your career.... doesn't this reminds you of Judah????
Man, its completely amazing to hear a few on here suggest a fighter being damage goods over 1,2 or 3 loses. I personally would like to see Cotto change his trainer and work on his skills and defense. I think we can see a better Cotto if these thing were to get improved.
