I guess its good to hear Cotto say that, but really.... what else is he going to say? Gonna say he signed this fight for the paycheck and knows hes going to get dissected? Gonna say hes taken a lot of punishment in his career and he feels it?

I rarely, rarely, put stock into what fighters say.... and even though I really like Cotto, that applies here.

of course cotto is going to say that. which fighter in his right mind would say that he is not in his best shape coming into a fight? the reality is cotto has been through so much wars and has seen much mileage.

I don't blame you for being skeptical - I was until I read a little bit about his new trainer (Pedro Diaz) and watched his last fight. Check out this link for some more info on Cotto's Trainer and Conditioning Coach: http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content10929.html

This guy is no joke.

Donnymo. It's pretty sad that you have nearly 3 pages dedicated to laughing you off the forum. Expect that to turn into 30 pages once you eat crow come May 6th. Lol

I remember I used to watch some Mexican Featherweight Boxer back in the late 90's. He fought Junior Jones twice and lost both times and was even savagely KO'd during one of the fights. Everybody just knew the guy was a shot fighter after the KO and humiliation.

Can anyone remember this fighter's name?

Oh man you are preaching to the choir about Pedro :good You are right man, hes the goods. I told my friends during the 24/7 yesterday that if I could choose one trainer to have, in all of boxing, it will be him.

Unfortunatly, just imo, it will make a big difference in how cotto looks compared to what he would look like without him as trainer, but I dont think it makes him competetive with Floyd, and great trainer or not, hes not better then when he was fighting Mosley, Judah and Quintana.

We will have to wait to be sure, but its just imo.

Its like, if Oscar came back and hired Pedro. He could say how with Pedro hes better then ever;
ya, he is probably a lot better then he would be without Diaz (like cotto), for sure, and Diaz can get him to the best he can be at that point in time (like he will with cotto), but hes not the best hes ever been, because the best he can be at this point doesnt compare to the best he could be in his prime. (also like cotto, imo)

just imo

That old DLH disposed of Mayorga much more convincing than todays Cotto. Margarito didnt land a punch on the zombie of Mosley and got ko'd for the first time in his career while Cotto was being chased, hit and marked up n bruised by a one eyed, damaged Margarito in the rematch. Cotto nearly lost to a past prime Mosley. Cotto is going to be bigger than the 154 DLH that Floyd fought? I dont think so.

Laugh out loud in ur silly little face.....lol

Not the same, imo.

I dont go by a fighters wins and losses when I determine for myself whether I think they are past it or not. Fighters lose, it happens.

I go by what I see from them in the ring, what I see from their training, and determine from their form, ability, and mentality, if I think they are past it or not, and how much.

To me, Cotto looked good all things considered against Margarito 2, but that all things considered is - the punishment hes taken, - the weight hes fighting at - his mentality right now in the sport

but looking good all things considered does not equal still being at your best, which cotto, if only in my eyes, is certainly not. Hes slower then before, hes sloppier then before, hes fighting at a weight he shouldnt be fighting at (imo), and hes taken the type of beatings that most elite fighters never regain form from. Thats not based off me looking at his wins and losses, that is me looking at the way hes fighting and how he looks in there.
