What is wrong with him, almost every time he loses he feels the need to change trainer.....I was really impressed by what Diaz did with him but ultimately he needs to accept the fight is won or lost with him not the trainer.

I've always liked him I know he gets a pass for some weird behaviour or decisions he has made but this just seems to me like someone who refuses to take responsibility for his own actions.

I think Roach is a good trainer (he was never as good as the media liked you to believe) but I just do not see what he adds to Cotto ESPECIALLY if he faces Canelo so I'm just wondering what exactly Cotto is thinking....

Any die hard Cotto fans have any insight?

Diaz did a damn good job and I like him. Cotto goes to Roach and he will lose. Roach can't teach him nothing that he doesn't already know.

At least he's serious about his career and is looking for any way to further improve and resume.

Yeah but what can Roach do for him? Cotto has a great jab so that is out of the question. Has good body work, decent hook and right hand. Roach can't teach him defense either.

Why or how can Roach benefit him?

He might not benefit but he won't hurt him either. At this stage of his career, Cotto doesn't exactly have anything to lose.

Same. Cotto always brings action to his fights and it's always worth staying up to watch him perform.

True. I think Nacho would be a better fit.

    I don't get cotto either

in his younger days fans were screaming for him to get with a new trainer and leave his uncle but he wasn't listening and now he's going through trainers like nothing.

Roach would've suited his style but right now he can't do ****. would've liked to see this partnership 7 years ago.

People here talk as if Roach has been a complete failure as a trainer.

He got a year or 2 of bad streak, compared to almost 2 decades or producing champions.

These are probably the same people who cheered Khan for leaving Roach and got his noggin shaken more than a martini at the club but tells people to wait due to him being with Hunter for just one fight. :-(

neither can Diaz nor Garcia nor mayweather.

cotto is a veteran he won't pick anything new from anyone the only thing a trainer can do for him now is get him in shape and keep him motivated.

I think it will really hurt him, he is showing he doesn't have the discipline to sit down and work through tough times. Freddy is below par at teaching defense and he needs at least some form of D going into these last few fights.

Should he face Canelo (I don't want him too, I prefer Floyd face him) the fight will definitely be good............while it lasts.

If there is no benefit to doing something then there is no point in doing it at all - someone should remind Cotto of this.

You never know. I hope the move with Roach will motivate him to bring some action back in there. I'm sure you know that neither trainers will completely change his style or make noticeable changes. At this stage Cotto's style is what we have always seen, some minor changes can be applied but nothing major.

At this stage of his career, hes learned what hes gonna learn.

His coach isnt going to make a difference in a couple of months after fighting for over 20 years, and fighting at an elite pro level for a decade.
