Cotto actually calling out both Berto & Clottey's names is impressive because I'd like to see those 2 fights, especially him against Berto, although Clottey deserves the shot first if you ask me. Clottey's one of those guys that hasn't really been beaten; unfairly dqed in one fight, and injured his hand after schooling Margarito easily for the first 4 rounds in that one, effectively showing Mosley how to beat Margarito). He also beat the **** out of Zab Judah. I love that fight because Judah fought his heart out, but Clottey outclassed him, which is impressive because a topform Judah is not easy to beat, and he really was in topform that night. My money is on Cotto fighting Mosley next, with a Berto/Clottey undercard. Clottey as already said that he'd fight Berto, and I'm sure after Berto's underwhelming performance against Collazo he would definitely like to fight him even more now. Hopefully if they fight, we get the 150 pound slick, fast Berto from the Forbes fight, not the 162 slow rockemsockem robot arms looking Berto.
He does but he knows that mosely wants it in cali and bob wants it msg for the pr parade. And let me tell you this Mosely looked impressive with margarito because margarito lacks defence and is there to be hit. Mosely always have a hard time with boxers with good defence.
Funny!!!!! He fought the guy and won close but clearly. Now he has to grow the balls to fight him again???? He won the last fight, Period. :deal
I agree with you completely. I just think it's one thing to say that they gave Cotto an easy fight and a completely different thing to insult Jennings as a bum fighter with no chance in hell of beating Cotto. People kind of do these immature things about fighters that they don't have a clue about, like Verno Phillips against Paul Williams. Yes that was an easy fight as planned for Paul Williams but Verno had a belt for a reason, namely he's a good boxer. I dislike this Payperview generation type of thinking that fighters like Cotto need to only fight the other top 5 fighters, otherwise the fight is meaningless. It's naive thinking and it's annoyingly immature.
im happy for cotto, he seems like a true gentleman of the sport and i have nothing but respect for the lad. same goes to jennings as well. I thought the lad jennings deserves maximum props because he could have easily quit before the 5th and gave it his all.
Todo bien papa....Mayaguez brings back some really good memories from Sangria De Fido and Frankie Ruiz.....:good
1st off Cotto has a resume full of good fighters, very good fighters, and even a great fighter, Williams doesn't....it's understandable why Cotto took a tuneup against the guy he did and , Clottey??? c'mon now kid, he's never beaten an elite welter, and you think he'll beat Cotto?? lets be real, these are 2 different class of fighters, Cotto's better in every aspect, nah i take the back, Clottey has the better chin btwn. the 2 and some would say defense, but i consider his defense one of his biggest faults, cuzz it takes away from his workrate, and since he aint got no real power to change the fight with one shot (via Arthur Abraham who has a similar defense but makes it work) it makes him easy to outpoint,..... i'd say he has good guard, but it's not a smart one, but aside from that Cotto's in another league i'm talking: in-fighting, technique, counter punching, power, speed, footwork, composure, ring generalship, Cotto is the better all around fighter.... hell Clotteys not even as good as Shane, and he has less natural boxing ability, illusiveness, pop and speed then Zab, but dont get me wrong he's a good fighter and he's tough so he'll stay in the fight but.....he aint winning **** honestly, or atleast not against Cotto i'll say a competive 9-3 in Cotto's favor...but no need for me to say nemore then this cuzz we'll probably find out this summer seeing as they'll more then likely be fighting then
That fight was a disgrace. Tuneups are fine. However, Cotto shouldn't be fighting regional level fighters on PPV for vacant belts at this stage in his career. Cotto has only beaten one elite WW. Clottey has a better chin, definately has better defense(yeah, his D might cut down on his workrate, but Cotto's offense allows him to get hit more. It's a tradeoff), and has better handspeed. Clottey's power is underrated. He busted Judah up bad and should've gotten an 8th round TKO(that cut was caused by a punch). He also visibally hurt Margo in their fight(something Cotto couldn't do). This is almost completely incorrect. Clottey's technique, in-fighting, and counter punching are all very good. I'm not sure how great Cotto's footwork is considering Margo was able to constantly trap him by simply following him around. Cotto didn't seem to have much composure in that fight or at the end of the Mosley fight. Meanwhile, Clottey stayed pretty composed even after hurting his hand against Margo. Clottey more boxing ability than Zab. Did you not watch their fight? It was pretty obvious that Clottey was the more schooled fighter. Clottey is a very good fighter and is very much capable of beating Cotto. You will be in for a rude awakening if you expect Cotto to beat Clottey by a 9-3 type score. Cotto's fight with Malignaggi was closer than that. I doubt this fight happens this summer as Arum has remarked that Cintron makes more sense financially.
