lol! agreed. cotto was overrated, but he was still a great fighter and fought like a soldier in his fights against margarito, clottey, pacquio, and mosley. but zab had him beat before the low blows. but taylor was poor management. with a better defense, he's still undefeated. but both were two of the best warriors we've seen in a long time. and it is funny how they were all white. i thought he did good against pavlik in the rematch.

Exactly, even Mosley admitted he lost that fight. But yeah I have made this comparison between Cotto and Taylor before and they are very distinct similarities between them.

i wasnt downing cotto when isaid he was overratted i just didnt think he was quite what hbo made him to be its funny this question come up cause me and my dad are both boxing attics me since i was 5yrs old im 35 and i am a huge jermaine fan cause i fowlled him since the olympics probably seen 20 of his fights thought he had the chance to be the next hagler i didnt think he was ready when he fought hopkins had that fight a draw but idid think he won the rematch and my dad loves cotto and he has never just wowed me i wish my dad knew how to use a computer for this we would all get a self proclaimed experts opinion haha i dont think it is a done deal that either one of them r done one reason i lean toward taylor coming back he has never took a full fight beating like cotto did against margarito it has basically been one punch deals and he is doing the right thing by taking a vacation if he comes back cotto hasnt and on the white boy thing didnt mean to offend anybody i played college fb at mostly an all black school so i maybe alil more loose with the race thing than most cause im comfortable in that enviorment but lets hope they both come back cause neither one ever ducked anybody and fought til the end and the sport one be better off with more like them

Good call Rafa. Truth is Cotto seemed pretty vulnerable in quite a few of his fights @ 140, he had a hard time making the weight and it showed.

    :patsch:lol::lol::lol:

almost got k0d twice at 140, used low blows to get out of losing once which changed the fight in desperation

arum refused to let him fight floyd claiming cotto was too green

    ring generalship?

guy was running for his life against margo and pac. also against mosley

From the Very first time I saw Miguel Cotto, I always thought he was OVERRATED!!! And I have so many friends (Boricuas) who have been trying UP-DOWN-FRONT-BACK & SIDEWAYS to get me to see How Good Cotto is...STILL CAN'T SEE IT!!! However I do see the comparison to Jermain Taylor...to a degree. But IMO here is the difference.

Its different for fighters like Taylor..They don't get "PASSES". Here is Taylor's last 10 opponents:
    Authur Abraham
    Carl Froch
    Jeff Lacy
    Kelly Pavlik - Twice
    Cory Spinks
    Kasim Ouma
    Winky Wright
    Benard Hopkins - Twice

Taylor fought the BEST of the BEST, fight after fight. No Michael Jennings, Oktay Urkal or Alfonso Gomez sandwich between the Elites and if that wasn't enough, Cotto is now preparing to fight the weakest belt holder at 154lbs. Taylor took some ass-whippings and came right back to fight opponents who had the ability to give him a BIGGER ASS-WHIPPING. In fact, when he was in close fights...had no problem with REMATCHES. I would have love to have seen Cotto/Mosley rematch or Cotto/Clottey rematch.

Cotto was always a good fighter..But IMO, I never saw him as ELITE!! Although I understand the comparison...Cotto was in NO way better than Jermain Taylor.

Taylor lost to good opponents, but Cotto lost to an ATG and also to the one of the top welterweights who might have cheated. Manny has come up in questions as well for refusing random drug testing, not saying hes doing anything. But Cotto's recent events in his life and questions on his only two losses might give him a last push to win another title. I can't see this from Taylor and as for the stamina issue Cotto won his previous fight against Clottey because of his ability to box the last few rounds and as well with Mosley. Mentally Taylor is done, Cotto still has questions. We will only know pretty soon.
