Don't worry Leonit, i am in the same boat. It's 50/50 for me now, and I am certainly aware of Cottos jab and timing. But lets not call it deceptive speed coz it aint speed at all, just timing. Unlike mosley, pac's speed is not just hand speed. It also comes with foot speed and angles with continuous motion from a southpaw. plus when caught, pac punches from weird body positions you don't expect anyone throw a punch. Pac will certainly be studying cotto to read his jab. If he can, pac is more than capable of moving to the side and throwing a combo before Cotto can reset. The only reason i'm 50/50 is I am not overestimating pacs power against cottos granite chin and even bigger power. cotto is definitely stronger in this fight.
This isn't accurate. Mosley does have good foot speed and, due to his athleticism and agility, can punch from weird angles. He also had the strength to get inside with Cotto and clinch. Manny will have none of those advantages.
we do have something to cheer, his power.when he hits manny with one of those left hooks to the body down or upstairs you can believe pacman aint gonna like it.
cotto has to use his excellent jab that he has.he not only throws it but he pushes off his back foot which knocks your head back.
MISTAKE Like ive said, that is my worry about this fight.... Just go out there buisness as usual, and let his skills speak for themselves and he will be find, manny will die a death of a thousand jabs and left hooks to the body.... let the people who say cotto isnt skilled choke on their words in this fight, but if he comes out to war he could be in for a rude awakening.
Cotto doesnt NEED to be as fast as pac, thats the differance... pac needs his speed, cotto doesnt. Cotto will nullify Pacs speed with his timing and jab..... skills that he should apply in the ring unless hes serious about this 'going to war' thing then im nervous as that is pacs best chance.
yeah, this fights definetly gonna be fun. 50/50 at opening bell that can quickly hike to either ones favor by round 2. cotto can potentially flash KD pac even with only that jab while pac try to chip at cotto and see if he can mosley-margo accumulate his punches. anyway, it is really too early to have a final say as there's about 2.5 months more to go. fvcken torture.
With that said, I expect Cotto to come out the corner pumping his stiff jab and on his feet. Cotto wont go to war, he will fight a smart, tactical fight.
I think Cotto IS coming for a war. If he fights tactically, chances are the fight will go long, and this plays into Manny's hands. Manny will throw, and land more punches - we'll have to wait and see how Cotto handles this. Cotto has shown time and time again that he struggles with high volume punchers - look at what happened with Margarito (plaster aside). Yoel Judah also repeatdly said to Zab "you gotta hit this ****er" - he was onto something there, and even in the Mosely fight, as Mosely's punch output dropped, Cotto got more comfortable. The fact is, Cotto is at his best when he dictates the pace - to beat him, you have to take him out of his comfort zone with a high punch output, and they don't need to be concussive punches either. Roach will know as well as anyone that for Manny to beat Cotto, Manny is going to have to throw some serious leather - I don't buy into this getting on his bike and darting in and out at all - Manny will be looking to back Cotto up. Cotto's jab and timing are too good for Manny to sit on the end of for the duration of the fight. For Cotto, the plans are simple. If Manny does choose to come and try to manouvre around Cotto, darting in and out, Cotto simply has to time Manny, although this is easier said than done. If Manny comes to pressure Cotto, which I believe he will, Cotto has to impose himself, and he does have the tools to do this. If the fight goes this way, I fully expect Cotto's power to overwhelm Manny, and break him down. If the fight goes the way I think it will, Cotto will put on a display like we haven't seen from him for a number of years, going from the more recent boxer/puncher displays, to the fearless destroyer that we seen earlier in his career. I expect Cotto to fight in a similar manner to that in which he did against Pinto, and I expect Manny to try to overwhelm Cotto with punch output. This one is going to be bloody, and very painful for both men. The only possible deviation for me is that if Cotto has any confidence issues remaining from the Margo loss, like the one's he displayed in the early going against Clottey.
