Who has ever been a great boxer both defensively and offenseively like a prime Whitaker?....Surely Cotto isn't....nor is PAC, but between Miguel and Manny, PAC is working with more in terms of ability and skills. Cotto just looks more like a classic boxer with his extensive AM background where PAC had very limited. But just b/c his style isn't "Classic Boxer" type doesn't mean he's not skilled.....his speed along with his skills are deceptive. Which makes him more dangerous for opponents.

PAC is better fighting when going forward. Why back up if that is not your strong area. That's like telling Floyd to brawl....that's not his strong suit, he's better as a counter puncher who can capitolize on the mistakes of his opponents. I'm sure PAC has worked on being a better boxer off the back foot...his defensive and offensive skill sets have vastly improved and he's still improving from what I can tell. PAC will never be a classic boxer like a floyd or a sweet pea, but he'll always fight with fire and heart....win or loose.

What happens if PAC destroys Cotto? I'm sure PAC haters will have ANTHER excuse to rationalize why PAC has once again defied odds. Cotto will be shot, weight drained, distracted or all of the above.

Cotto hasn't faced the kind opposition that PAC has either aside from Shane which has his BEST showing.....but I felt Shane beat Cotto....Not a robbery but IMHO I felt Cotto lost by 2 rounds.

Even though I want Cotto to win, I am worried about Pac's speedy combinations. He is fast, the thing is that Cotto likes to go to the body when the opponent is right in front of him, Pac will always be moving and throwing punches in bunches. It will be interesting, though I wish Cotto had a better straight right hand. Still rooting for Cotto.

Do you really need to be as good as Whitaker to be a better boxer than Cotto?

Yep, you just said it: "his late push"... too bad it was too late for him to push by then, he (Margarito) should've started earlier, he would've won that fight then...:p

agreed. but manny pacquiao throws a beautiful uppercut if you watch some of his previous fights and this more than the straight lefts can land a la zab judah. Cotto must work oh this deficiency in his defense. Cause Cotto has a decent baird but he can make it easy on himself by improving uppercut defense do no walk in with head down, jab his way in always and end with the jab.

He sure is...against the right opponent...like, a GATTI. He won't brawl against guys who are on his skill or talent level. He is good counter punching, using angles and the ring to remove himself from risk. He'll stay int he pocket for a short period b/c his reflexes will allow him but not for long if his opponent is a guy like DLH who held a signifigan weight advantage in their meeting

PAC is capable of boxing too....agains the right opponent...look at how well he outboxed Diaz. But are we gonna say PAC is now a purist as a boxer? Will we say Floyd is a true brawler b/c he can against the right oppoents?
