i think people need to look at the long term point of view. pac wants to fight mayweather at a catchweight. so if he fights cotto at 147 then floyd has the advantage. he will simply say ' you fought at 147 against cotto why not me'

If a pound or two does matter, then how come you are so sure that the fight needs to be at 147lbs? Why not 148 or 149.

I mean clearly you have some inside knowledge of Cotto's weightmaking and dietary habits that even his own nutritionist doesn't have, it's only fair to share you priviledged knowledge with the rest of us.

I'm not sure if Chavez-Pea was fought at a catch weight, but neither was a true ww anyway.

It's not comical...it's true. From 146, to 145. That is a pound. Plus you know how Cotto "usually" balloons in between camp. He won't be doing that since he jsut beat Josh and the fight is being looked at for OCT or Nov. He'll stay down in weight which will make his job of making weight far less of a struggle than normal.

And yea...I do understand having to cut and make weight from experience. So I know the deal and I know how hard cutting weight can be, but I also know what it takes and how having a 24 hour period to reyhydrate can be to Cotto's advantage. I use to wrestle and belive me.....I wasn't cutting weight like PRO prize fighters were like Cotto do. They have professional trainers, nutitionist and everything else where I had a HS coach and my own dedication. It's not a situation bro.

Not sure....But I've seen a Catch weight between a MW and a LHW, Super WW vs MW and a bunch of others in the last 20 yrs of boxing. So it happens.

Char, I wasn't talking about you not understanding. Metaphorically speaking of course. In order to achieve greatness, there are no short cuts. Pac does not need a catch weight to defeat Cotto.

None of those fights was at a weight where either guy could be weakened. And I'm talking about a catchweight fight between a jww and a ww.

It's all about evening the playing field. Cotto holds the size, power and strength advantage on Fight night. PAC agreeing tot he weight Cotto and his team suggested is a small win pre fight for Roach and PAC. It gives them a little advantage knowing Cotto won't be able to gain that one extra pound by fight night. It's a mental game too homie.

143 is about negotiations....You start low....meet in the middle. Boxing is also a business. Part of the game.

Lets face it, you're going to talk bull**** if Pac wins anyway. If it was at 147, you'd just find a different tack, like Cotto not being black enough to count as a top class win...
