    Nice post Skills.

I thought Miguel would have trouble with Trout having watched a bit of Trout online. A tall, patient, fast-handed southpaw...not ideal. So I think its important to put a bit of perspective on this - let's not under-rate Trout. In my mind he is now (if you take away Mayweather), the best at 154 lbs. I think we'll see Trout fight and beat many more top class men. In hindsight, defeat here will be no real shame for Cotto.

Cotto has previously said he has re-found his love for the sport, but we have to also take into account the fact that he is now 32 and anytime a former elite fighter loses two on the bounce the questions have to be asked as to how long he really has left. That being said, I still feel Cotto has at least one more marquee fight left in him, and not as a name or a torch-passer, but a genuine opponent.

For me, Alvarez-Cotto makes more sense than ever now. Alvarez is so un-seasoned. He's had a lot of fights for his age, but no top ten contenders. To throw him in with one of the best such as Mayweather or Trout would not make sense to me. Cotto on the back of two defeats does. And for me, Cotto still takes Canelo at this stage.

Perhaps Cotto takes a warm-up fight, similar to his Michael Jennings/Alfonso Gomez bouts, then guns for a Canelo showdown this time next year. I favour Cotto and what a way that would be to bow out - putting a young Mexican in his place!

    Canello would absolutely demolish Cotto

Bigger and stronger than anyone Cotto has fought, hungry, faster than Cotto with a proven chin.

it'd be the worst beating of cotto's career, especially at this stage

And Cotto is much, much better than anyone Alvarez has fought, even at this stage. Canelo has looked great hunting down men who are not on his level or even in his weight-class. Cotto is the better boxer.

Canelo's chin is not the hardest to find either, and Cotto is an accurate, solid puncher. Just because Cotto couldn't track down the elusive Trout or Mayweather does not mean he is faded to the point any young lion with a size advantage can beat on him. Cotto-Alvarez would be a completely different type of fight in that Cotto would not be the one trying to cut down the ring.

Cotto would box and move, keep it simple on the inside (though he wouldn't want to stay there for long). Either way, at this exact point, there is no demolishing going on should Cotto and Canelo meet.

Imagine him facing the Cotto of 3 years ago down at Welter, no doubt in my mind Cotto would completely outclass him.

what the one who scraped past clottey by the skin of his teeth?

the only way Alvarez loses to cotto is if he's drained.

Cotto has some cracking wins to his name:

    Mosley
    Judah
    Margaito
    Malignaggi

And some decent wins over tough fighters like Corley, Bailey, Clottey, Mayorga

Deserves to go into the hall of fame, he's been a credit to the sport

Think Cotto should have one more and then call it. Doubt he will though, he'll chase another world title

Expect Canelo to avoid Trout like the plague now. Hope i'm wrong

I'm not sure Cotto is done. Depends if he wants it.

To be honest isn't Trout going to cause him major issues any point in his career? Especially at 154lb, the suspicion has always been Cotto is not a 154lb'er. He's thickened out but he's still very short and you are going to lose speed that way. Trout has height, reach, tricky southpaw, he ain't gonna be bullied at 154lbs, and he also got speed on Cotto. The guys just tricky.

All depends if Cotto wants it, he's stuck between a rock and a hard place really because he probably can't make 147 anymore and there ain't a lot out there that isn't high risk/low reward. As Bunce said...you could fight Kirkland or Angulo or something but thats a big risk...and for what?

Agreed. A lot of it is about perception. If you thought Cotto was going to walk through Trout, you would then consider him very faded after his comfortable points loss on Sat night. If, like myself, you knew Trout would be a toughie, you shouldn't be going on about Cotto's retirement, the focus should instead be on Trout proving himself to be a top level fighter.
