It seems that this is a match not possble but Cotto had been fighting at 140 for a long time while Juan Diaz actually started at 140 before moving down to 135. Height, size, reach is almost the same. Cotto is 5'7'' while Daiz is 5'6",reach is equal 67", and body types are the same (not ripped but more of a mound of power like Charles Barkley type). In Cotto, you see a relentless heavy puncher, not very technical (left jabs then followed by powerful right) but brings the pressure relentlessly. On the other hand, Diaz is also a relentless pressure fighter. Although he does not have that punchers power, he compensates by throwing volume punches, with wicked 5-7 punch combinations. Both of these fighters do not know the meaning of fighting backwards. They make their opponents do the backpedalling. A fight between the two I think is bigger than ODLH-Mayweather in significance. That is two undefeated fighters who areboth in their primes. Seldom do we get fighters meeting each other who are both prime. It is always that the upcoming phenom vs. the established or legend. I am tired of Pacman being pitted against opponents obviously are way way bigger than he is like the latest one against ODLH, Mayweather. These match-up are interesting from a point of view of mythical match-ups and mental exercise but does not or would never happen. There are more interestingmatch-ups that are possible and Cotto and Diaz is one of these. Although Cotto is currently fighting a division above 140, I am sure he can still go down to 140 if the price is right.
Closer in what way? Are you referring to the outcome of the fight or physical attributes? If you are referring to size, weight, etc, Cotto and Diaz are almost if not the same size. Diaz' first 6-7 fights were actually at 140. Pac first fought at minimumweight (106?) and moved up to 130. I think he had extended himself too much already. He does not have the built of the 135-140 fighters in terms of bone structure, etc. Whereas Diaz actually started at 140 while Cotto's first fight was at 135. I am just wondering why no one metions this fight. It seems logical although I understand that the "money" fight is with Pac.
Oh man, Cotto would break Diaz down so hard. I mean it would be a brutal beat down without a doubt. Diaz would be on the ground so hard from Cotto's body attack and his face would get rearranged by perfectly timed shots just like when Cotto fought Abdullaev. I'm not comparing Diaz to Abdullaev but just using that as an example....Diaz would get ****ed up!
First of all, Pac has trouble making 130 at this point and Cotto would need to drain himself bad to make 140. It doesn't matter where Diaz started, he will never be nearly as big as Cotto is. He is a little bit shorter and is naturally smaller than him. When you factor in Cotto's way superior power, punch arsenal, and defense it's a complete mismatch. The only thing wrong with Cotto is his shaky chin, but since Juan can't hurt him it's not even worth worrying about. Don't reply to this guy, he's just here to joke around. Diaz-Cotto itself is a joke, but there's no point of taking this guy serious and arguing with him.
I actually think that cotto would win this match-up 8 or 9 out of 10 fights. Cotto is a match-up problem for Diaz nd that is not factoring in the size difference which I believe is very small. Height of 1/2 inch and equal reachand almost equal weight is almost insignificant. However, the power difference is obvious. Diaz threw evrything including the kitchen sink againt Julio and never KOed him. I am just wondering why no one pits these two fighters? is it because the answer is obvious? Instead Diaz is challening a fighter lower in weight than he is. If you consdertht he actually startd at 140,that is 2 divisions lower than him. How about Malignaggi, a very crafty fighter, probably with same or less power an Diaz. He is surely the same size or smallerthan Diaz. This fight is very reasonable. Yet no one mention this?
Cotto is the better boxer but juan would make it a war. Wouldn't be as easy as people think, although the weight would be a factor in this one.
Cotto fights two divisions above Juan Diaz and has a big punch as a welterweight, and weights around 160 lbs on fight night. If Diaz barely has any power at LWT then Cotto will barely even blink as he is the much bigger man. How much does Diaz weight on fight night? around 145? Its just a bad match up.
