i've seen espada only on youtube in one of his fights with cuevas...how do you think a fight between he and cotto would go?

Ok i originally voted for cotto by descision, soon after realising it wasnt really an educate descision, having seen all of Cotto's championship efforts, and only the weston, hearns and duran fights for cuevas.

However after reviewing more fights and obviously looking at Cuevas' explosive power I realise that the guy has a definate chance. BUT, the people choosing Cuevas by KO easy are all Classic forum regulars, we all know that those on the classic forum think that any fighter from today is ****, and that if your prime was before 1985 your automatically better than anybody current.

Cotto has fought FAR bigger opponents than Cuevas and I think its been proven that he isnt going to fall over as soon as he gets hit.

Sweet pea claims that Cotto doesnt last past 6 yet randy shields managed to last the full 15, as did Harold Weston and claims that Cotto is 'robotic' and not as skilled as Angel Espada? :patsch

In his fights Cuevas is sorely lacking defence, much like Margarito but he doesnt throw as many punches, although he hits far harder and so that probably equates him with tony plaster hands. If its over 12 I think Cotto keeps Cuevas off balance and wins a UD overcoming some scary moments, over 15 it becomes much closer IMO and that would be a toss up IMO

not true. floyd recently got more votes than ike williams in a recent thread.ask anyone on there i'm a known cotto nuthugger, but his great recuperative skills and decent boxing ability are not good enough to deal with cuevas. just a few punches from cuevas will bring the pain of 11 rounds with margacheato.

Ok but you know what i mean . Older fighters tend to get the nod.
Cuevas was a big hitter with a great chin, but he had rusty defence and Cotto has a solid chin, he can be staggered, hurt etc. But this isnt Amir Khan we got in there with Cuevas.

Cuevas almost lost a 15 round descision to Randy Shields so he isnt invincible. It could be a bad style matchup if cotto comes forward but he is an all round fighter who can box effectively going back.

AGain, no he can't. Not consistently anyway. Although I had him winning the Clottey fight 115-112, it wasn't like he still wasn't getting tagged late on, even with re-ad******g. If he gets tagged by Cuevas, he'll get put away.

Cotto has shown a decent chin and good powers of recovery. But he has also shown that he can be hurt enough to decide against carrying on, and can be bothered by shots. If Cuevas lands clean, it won't bother him, it will make him feel all the hurt he felt against Margarito, without the wraps.

When you talk of a hypothetical matchup you go by the figthers best performances. On his best night, Cuevas could beat Cotton on his (IMO, a mix of the Mosley fight and the first six rounds against Margocheato)

By the way I'm wearing a Cotto t-shirt now so don't think I'm giving a pro-Cuevas opinion. I'm much more a fan of Cotto. But unlike a lot of people on this site I don't allow my nuthugging in the way of making an unbiased call. :good

Call me a nuthugger but on Cotto's best day he has a chance to pull this one out so I would go with Cotto by close decision.
