Thus is the life of Ricardo "Can't get right" Torres. Gotta love Big George BTW. "Torres is probably thinking, We already saw that he can't take my power. I already shown that I can take his." Torres proceeds to get knocked down a few seconds later.
Its a small matter...Torres had a chin issue not a stamina issue...it was early into the fight. Lets not make more out of it than it was....Cotto kicked his ass!!!!!
Very good fight, If Cotto ddin't had weight problems in that weight the fight would not being as exciting, because Cotto would easly ko this guy.
guys like torres are frustrating to watch, so inconsistent......i think maybe he needs a better trainer.....if he was mentally focused he could have finished off a cotto.....
Torres took that fight on something like 6 weeks notice to replace another opponent. Cotto was lucky as hell that Torres wasnt fully prepared because he would have been in trouble the way he struggled with Torres who didnt have a chance to be his best that night.
Cotto and Torres were already scheduled to fight that December on a Top Rank PPV. Torres fought Edwin Vasquez the month prior on Telefutura and accepted the fight on short notice because he said he was still in fighting shape and didn't suffer any damage in the fight with Vasquez, who he stopped inside of three rounds. It's funny people say Torres wasn't fully prepared for Cotto. Yet, Torres has never looked as prepared against any other fighter. The closest he ever came to that form was in the rematch against Holt. He wasn't nearly as sharp or explosive against Arnaoutis, Morua, or Holt in their first fight.
People need to understant that Torres is one of the most inconsiastent fighters around His trainer publish a report that Torres only train for about a month He always late for training, even in the Holt fight He was mising for about two months and came in fat as hell and only with one month of training, the guy simply do not like to train and do not have the desire to fight. the article was published on fightnews.
How amazing would Cotto-Holt @ 140 have been? You wouldn't score points based on clean effective punching and ring generalship but rather by tallying how many times - per round - each guy got off the canvas!
Great fight, good back and forth action. I forgot how much pop Torres has behind his punches. Cotto took many hard shots, but ended up delivering his own set of punishment.
Damn that fight got me going crazy that day thinking Cotto might be stopped, ****ing INSANE night that was. It was on the undercard of Wladimir/Peter.
