I get the feeling Mayweather will retire after the Hatton fight. This is a shame, because I would love to see him fight Cotto, but I cant blame him. He's made his money, his legacy is secure, let him go in peace.

If Mayweather retires, that kills the possibility of Miguel Cotto - Floyd Mayweather. I dont mind this, because I cant see it being any closer or more competitive than the Hatton fight.

But Hatton Cotto is a much more mouthwatering prospect. Even though Mayweather beat Hatton, i imagine Hatton - Cotto would be a much more entertaining fight than Hatton - Mayweather. I can see this fight being a total war, one for the ages, one that could be fight of the year or even fight of the decade. They're both aggressive, they both like to stand and trade, they both love bodyshots and they're both world class champions.

So who wins? Cotto has the advantages of:

    - Strength at 147lbs
    - Vicious punching power
    - Better jab than Hatton
    - more rounded boxer
    - longer arms/reach

Hatton on the other hand has the advantage of

    - Better footwork, more spring in his step
    - Higher workrate and pressure
    - More endurance and determination
    - Incredible resilience and a solid chin
    - The ability to open someone up for painful shots on the inside

Theyre about equal in terms of

    - Bodypunching
    - handspeed
    - head-movement

This is very close contest. Sometimes I favour Hatton, indeed I have often picked Hatton in the past when this fight comes up hypothetically, and other times I ***** out and say "its a 50/50 fight." At 147lbs you'd think Cotto would have the advantage, but to be honest I dont think that it was the step-up in weight that cost Ricky Hatton against Mayweather. Infact, I think the weight division helped Hatton, it meant he didn't have to drain as badly to make 140lbs. Put it this way, Hatton didn't lose to Mayweather because of being a welterweight. This fight is just as competitive at 147lbs as it would've been at 140lbs 3 years ago. Cotto's jab and boxing skill are very good, which could cause Hatton trouble. Cotto also hits harder than Floyd, which is a worry coz Hatton's defence is ****.

So how does this one pan out. Lets have your DETAILED AND SERIOUS analysis. Name-callers, haters, childish one setence reply keyboard warrior insults NOT WELCOME.

Man Cotto would really hurt Hatton this is a very bad matchup for Hatton and one he should avoid at all cost.

This is not offence to Ricky, who is a good solid boxer, but Cotto would brutalize him. Ricky relies on his ring strength and Cotto is stronger.

Yeah Cotto is too big, and too big a puncher, in too big a weight. Ricky needs to stay at 140 and re-establish his dominance in that division if he can.

Its nice to believe in your boy but lets be real here.Cotto has a sound beard.Hatton doesnt hit hard enough to hurt him.Cotto is a huge puncher Hatton uses pressure and volume.Cotto stalks Hatton comes forward. That means is what we have is a fight in the centre of the ring with the man with the big punch KO`ind his opponent.Bear in mind Cotto has a much better defense and tucks in tight and uses his jab.Hatton`s is VERY easy to hit. This would be a great fight to watch but theres NO WAY Hatton wins.He gets KO`ed in even more devastating fashion and way earlier than Floyd could manage.

I give Hatton a good chance against Cotto, always have always will. The Floyd fight changes nothing. Your just a hater scurla, your record speaks for itself. Who was the first person to start an "exposed" thread on Hatton the moment he lost to the P4P No.1?

If that fight ever happens I stand by my prediction; a close-fought, entertaining war which could go either way 50/50. At this stage thats all I am prepared to commit too.

You scurla on the other hand, your words are going to write a cheque your ass cant cash. If even Cotto wins, which I concede is possible, it WONT be a demolition like you predict.

Bookmark this post, if/when the fight happens were gonna see you exposed as the ignorant hater you are.

I pretty much think the consensus was that Ricky gets beat by Cotto at Welter long before Saturday nights result happened. Against bigger guys where size hasn't been to Hatton's advantage, he has struggled at the top level, or certainly looked nowhere near his best, Collazo, Urango (Urango being a huge bodied LW) etc. Hatton is LW all day long he cant grow into WW like a Cotto, Moseley, PBF etc. His shortness, and style of fighting means he will always stuggle as a WW. Although the bigger names are up there, for the sake of his health, and getting back on track with his career he needs to re-establish his dominance at LW.

Nice post except for the fact that you gave Hatton the edge in chin, determination and resilience lolz Cotto is a class above in all those departments

I like Hatton, BUT he gets brutalized against Cotto. Cotto is just too strong even at 140.

All the fighters that fought him have gotten beat up one way or another. He did not dominate in the Mosley fight but if you look at Mosleys face at the post-fight press conference you can tell by the swelling on his jaw that he has been there with Cotto.

Judah got beat up. Quintana got beat up. Malignaggi got beat up.

And I'm sorry to say,as much as Hatton is a good fighter, he will get beat up. Even if this was without knowing what happened against PBF.

Seeing that Collazo who has a 48% KO percentage and PBF hasn't TKO'ed anyone since 2005 (Lil Sharmba Mitchell) and before that Gatti, who was there to be hit.

Hatton won't be able to stand up to Cotto's power. Period.
