No, he didn't.

Hatton was preparing for a Light Welterweight fight, but he couldn't find an opponent, so he had to take a fight at welterweight and then gain the extra weight at a few weeks notice.

 

Cotto was and will always be the better fighter.

 

Hattons stock has fallenly massively since he's been fighting in the states, nobody can surely argue otherwise?

Collazo, whupped him (if he didnt beat Hatton, he definitely beat him up)
Urango, holding on for dear life for the last 5 rounds agaisnt a poor opponent
Castillo, by consensus completely shot
Mayweather, battered, beaten at his own game and KTFO

Hatton's star doesn't rise in a losing effort against Mayweather (like it did for example, in Malignaggi's loss to Cotto) - because he was not competitive and it was not a close fight. If you think simply being in the ring with a great is something to highlight on a fighters resume, Yuri Boy Campos and Ross Purrity are p4p type fighters.

Moreover, Hatton has no right to call himself a "two-weight World Champion" (which he does, at every opportunity, usually in the third person) until he rematches and beats Luis Collazo like he said he would.

Even if you did mean that (you didn't) so f'kin what? Hatton enters the ring over 147lbs anyway when fighting at LT Welter, and entered the ring heavier than Collazo. This is just more of the same crap from Hatton apologists - 7lbs is such a mighty difference it turns what we're led to believe is a world beater into a scrub - no, good fighters don't get beaten up against 'B' fighters 7lbs north and ***** about it - Shane Mosely didn't even bother with the 140lb division; in the old days Hatton would have HAD to fight at Welterweight - so Hatton fans pretty much think he's a bum who's only ever achieved anything becasue of the creation of the 140lb division? Seems like it to me.

 

I really didn't think 'STEPPING UP at short notice to win a WELTERWEIGHT title' would be so difficult to understand, seems fairly self explanatory to anybody with an intelligence level beyond that of a down syndrome....oh.
