It stopped being that competitive after round 3, the closer score you gave for the third would have most likely turned into Canelo wins for the rest of the rounds, most of the middle rounds were close Canelo and then more decisive as the fight progressed. 117-111 is about right.

    Although I had it 118-110.:yep

Canelo landed quite a few bombs on Cotto throughout the last 8 rounds often times freezing him in his tracks, stunned him a few times late in the fight especially with his uppercut, Cotto seemed to stun Canelo once with a jab late in the 8th IIRC, but other than that Canelo seemed unaffected by Cotto's power.

    No.

I rarely score fights...it's not my job and it takes away the fun of just watching.

Cotto clearly won the first two rounds; Canelo clearly won the 8th. The 5 rounds in between were very close...a couple HAD to be scored 9-9. Nevertheless I had the fight even through the 10th. Canelo passed the 12th round posing and just looking at Cotto who was more active and successful. I have to admit I missed the 11th as my stream died.

So I had if 7-4 Cotto with an unscored 11th. I would have accepted a draw as reasonable.

But after remembering the $300000 fee that Cotto wouldn't pay I saw the writing on the wall.

I think you set your expectations too high and expected too much from Canelo, Canelo did exactly what I thought he would, he fought cautiously gave away the first 2 to 3 rounds, assessed that Cotto's power wasn't all that impressive, took over in the mid rounds, Cotto got on his bicycle, Cotto landed a few soft jabs and flurried here and there, while Canelo landed the bombs winning the majority of the rest of the fight.

You can win a match 12-0 even if all the rounds are close. As long as you're the one landing the more telling shots and slipping the majority of your opponents.

He gave the fourth to Cotto and the rest to Canelo, bizarrely. Link to all three judges' scorecard here:

Isn't it ok to score a round 9-9? Unless it's under a "must" points system?

Even rounds are scored 10-10. Yeah that's fine but I didn't see that many 10-10 rounds in the match. They closish but not all that close.

Because the early rounds were close and could have swung either way.

That's as good as it got for Cotto.:deal

    Not really, no.

Close rounds, but differently close. If you score fights a certain way, there's no reason you can score each round entirely in one of the fighters' favour - if you get what I mean.

I had it 7-5 Cotto, could easily see it 7-5 Canelo. Wouldn't call the outcome a robbery, but the scoring is atrocious.

    Boxing is always "10-points must".

    Even rounds are scored 10-10.
