Even though I'm more of a Cotto fan, i'm taking Canelo in this one. I don't think the accumulation of Cotto's punches overly effects Canelo, w/ Cotto getting punished. Canelo hasn't knocked anyone out in a while even though I wouldn't be surprised by a seemingly early stoppage later in the fight so. Officially Canelo by decision. Kind of a wasted thread and poll since Cotto's really rematching FMJ(unofficially).:D

this is plausible but I don't think this is cotto's game...i'm with you on the canelo part:-((

alverez is stationary really from the waist down...any top class stick and move from distance boxer will win rounds of him...but thats not cotto...cotto meets him head on, and in that scenario alverez is a bull who will wear the older man down maybe inside 8 or so and retire him.

This one is hard for me to call.

Cotto has better skills.... and all that comes with that (ability, timing, schooling) I think hes slightly quicker, I think he has the better team.... probably will have the better training camp,

Also Canelo doesn't really match up with Cotto all that great, hes not really a come forward pressure fighter with a good chin, which is Cottos kryptonite. He will do his usual routine of trying to outbox a boxer, countering, and being a boxer puncher. I don't really see that having much success with Cotto.

That's all pretty hard to go against.

On the other hand, I just 'feel' that Cotto wont like Canelos presence in the pocket.... I think he wont like when Canelo does start to land... I think he will start to do the Cotto backpeddling at some point which may not be good against a star like Canelo where the judges might be looking to give him rounds...

Real hard.... cant really split them right now. One minute I can see a Canelo SD, the other a Cotto UD.

A lot of this can be said of Trout and Lara though. Admittedly, those were close fights, but they weigh a lot more than Cotto, are much quicker and more skillful, and probably hit as hard or harder.

I just see this as a step down in competition for Alvarez. Cotto will be the smallest guy he's fought in a while. Cotto won't outslug him and if Lara and Trout couldn't outbox/hurt him I can't see Cotto doing it.

i know what i want to see happen, and that cotto stopping canelo itll be epic. BUT bigger, younger, fresher, more power guy in canelo will give cotto problem and can see a war break out if cotto or canelo smells blood. its never a boring fight when cotto steps in that ring we can all agree on that. both boxers fade late in fights. it can be who has the better training camp and game plan. when one of them gets rocked (ans itll happen) game plans goes out the window. great fight imo going for my boy cotto but wont be easy at all we know who the bigger man is.

i wouldnt call a possible 40 million dollar offer to rematch a floyd fight that cotto looked way better in than canelo getting handled a duck...

Cotto will make WAY more money fighting Alvarez than he would against Floyd. There's no 40mil on the table there. The entire purse would likely be less than that, and Floyd gets at least 32mil of that.

Anyway, I'd call winning the 160lb lineage and defending it against a guy who could make 140 a duck, especially when the public demands the Alvarez or GGG fight.

The public demanded Floyd rematch Castillo and Maidana, because he didn't look good and they looked like they had a shot. Cotto at no point looked like a threat to beat Floyd, and he's only gotten older since then. That fight would BOMB on PPV.

I would love for Cotto to finish what Floyd started, and end the Canelo hype once and for all.

Canelo isn't shot like Maravilla is, Gingerelo is going to leave lumps on Cotto's head.

I'm not a fan of Cotto, but i hope he beats Canelo, who hasn't beaten a single B+ or A fighter clearly. Canelo will come forward and pressure Miguel, like Magarito. However Canelo is faster and more explosive than Antonio which i think will be a problem for Miguel Cotto who is 34 years old now.

Cotto wins via "levels to this sht..." Canelo is overrated as fck. His chin you kids speak about was rocked by Cotto's less talented brother. Don't bet all your tacos on this one.

You mean Cotto wasn't a bloated Chavez Jr, or a sick alcoholic named Pavlik... Martinez got snuffed and learned very quickly that Cotto as small as he was, is levels above the BS competition that Sergio built his "killer of journeymen" resume upon.

    Levels to this sht.

Canelo makes Kneeguel Cotto quit, Canelo is no one eye Margarito or no knees Martinez Canelo will beat him worst then Trout did.

And yet Cotto would be brutally pulverized by Chavez Jr. and Pavlik and if you think otherwise check yourself into a mental institution.

Maybe Cotto would have a chance if he got some liver shots in against Pavlik:D
