I wouldn't favor a smaller man who likes to brawl over a guy like Brown in his younger days. He wasn't only a big puncher, he knew how to pick his spots very well. Excellent counter-puncher with a fine, rangy jab. I think he'd have bettered Cotto in that department prior to picking his shot just right.

Brown never beat a fighter as good as Cotto or Mosley at welterweight.

Was Cotto really a better fighter than Vaca or Blocker?

Yes, and Blocker was having his way with Brown.

Its not like Blocker fought him at distance either. Blocker was never as strong as Mosley or Cotto at 147. Brown just wore him down with size. What a great fight that was

Well the point was that Cotto and Mosley were stronger welters. I think Cotto has equal power to Brown to at 47.

Cotto was perhaps stronger and a better hitter than Blocker, but no way was he more resilient.

Cotto would not survive 10 rounds of the punishment Blocker took against Brown. Cotto will choose to box more, but even then I'd be doubtful he sees the finish line.

My guess is that Brown will take him out when Miguel (predictably) gasses over the last third of the fight.

Cotto isn't lasting 15, and he often has trouble going 12. Brown by late TKO.

Likewise for Brown. He wasnt too difficult to hit. With cottos hook who knows if he makes it late..

The Brown of 1989 thru March 1991 was a bad-ass 147 lb. champion.... Brown was primed there.....

Brown either decisions or stops Cotto of 2007 thru 2010 at 147 pounds.....

    MR.BILL

    Note:

Had Simon Brown retired for good after dropping that decision to Terry Norris in 1994, I think Brown's legacy would be much more respected..... Brown became a mockery of a once damn good fighter by lingering on in boxing way too long....

Brown is more resilient than anyone Cotto has stopped at the weight though. He'd have to really be teeing off on Brown to get a stoppage, and I don't think Cotto will back himself to stay within range long enough to do it - with good reason mind.

Let me ask you why you think he was a sturdier fighter. Cotto has never been laid out by one shot and fought deep against a guy with loaded gloves. Forget about the PAC fight Margarito could have completely ruined Cotto. I believe Brown is a bit easier to hit if that's possible.:). Could Brown take the shots Margo laid on Cotto?
I think it's a good fight closer than most think here.
