Watched this fight again before work this morning. I think a draw or even a Cotto win would not be crazy. Ignore the garbage scorecards. Cotto gave Clenelo all he could handle. Unfortunately, Cotto faded badly soon after and lost to Sadam Ali in his final fight. I think that if Cotto had trained under Roach throughout his career, he would have beaten Floyd and Clenelo.

Lol Canelo BEAT Cotto with Roach as a trainer, I don't see any difference if Cotto had Roach for year's and don't forget that was not a fully prime Canelo this version of Canelo beats both prime Cotto and Roach in the same night

'Monster' is pushing it, but he had a shot Cotto who was several classes above his best weight looking like a live dog against Canelo, so that's at least something.

That version would have beaten Mayweather, imo.

I don't think it was terribly close but a pretty good performance in a basically unwinnable fight. I had it on in the background recently too

He was the type to succeed with Roach too.

How many losses do you think canelo should have? Larry mosley, trout, lara, mayweather, ggg in both fights all performed better then cotto vs canelo. So you got canelo with 7 losses?

Under roach was not the best version of Cotto by any stretch.

Cotto acquitted himself very well for an older, much smaller guy, but I thought he lost about 8-4 or so. It took something out of him, too (as did the layoff afterwards). It was the last time he really looked like an elite/borderline elite at 154; he was noticeably less sharp and a lot slower against Kamegai and Ali.

One of my mexican friends who is a Canelo fan had Cotto winning that fight. Close one... personally I had Canelo edging it.

I dont think Cottos record would look different under roach though.

Would still lose to Floyd, Marg and Pac.

He may not be the most loved pr fighter maybe Tito is but he is the most accomplished one. I'm just repeating what Robert Garcia said in an interview and I agree with it.

Garcia went on to say non biasdly "who knows what would have happened to Margarito? Maybe perhaps Cotto would have kept beating him up those last few rounds-whos to say?"
