This is mad cre! List of dudes who passed on career high pay days (JMM withstanding) and a shot at legacy enhancement by challenging Miggs (a certified HOFer and ATG):
    • Mikey Garcia
    • Errol Spence
    • Jessie Vargas
    • Juan Manual Marquez
    • Danny Garcia (unverified)
Shaking my damn (below waist) head!

Miguel is still competing at a high level, so I can understand why some would want get paid big bucks to fight him. That said JMM was the fight I really wanted to see.

    I completely agree.

Cotto-Marquez is one of those mouth watering match-ups where it's a BEAUTIFUL STYLES MATCH UP with no guy having a clear advantage. Pressure and speed kills Cotto. JMM isn't about speed or pressure. Cotto is a beautiful boxer. JMM counter punches and boxes beautifully. Damn shame.

My official prediction would have been Cotto by TKO.

Miguel Cotto was trying to underpay people or De La Hoya wanted his opponents to sign to GBP, like Arum used to do them.

Nobody wants to be on Golden Boy for beating up old Cotto. Nobody is avoiding an old man.

Mikey Garcia rejected a one-time, no strings attached fight w/ Jorge Linares. If Mikey wanted Cotto, he could have negotiated a package deal of just Cotto and Linares. Mikey was about to take the Cotto fight, but Mikey's grandfather spooked him by telling him that he's worried Mikey would get hurt.

Beating Cotto would have raised each guy's profile and thus putting them in a a better position to demand more dollars down the line.

Did Jeff Horns destruction of Manny Pacquaio make him a star yet?
Is he headlining his own PPV and pulling Mayweather money?
    No.
When Trout beat Cotto did he go on to be a huge star?
    NO!
Beating Cotto gets you nothing much these days. Cotto is not a star outside of New York and the hardcore fans man. I live in California, that Stub Hub event was top flight bullll**** that nobody cared about.

Must have low balled them pretty hard, cause I think most of them would beat him and have no reason to be afraid. I've never understood how Cotto became a pay per view diva. Good fighter, but he loses every time he steps up (with the freakish exception of the Martinez fight). I guess he fought everybody relevant in his weight classes like De La Hoya did but he just lost to most of them, so how does that make you a star? He deserves respect for beating Margarito, Judah, and Mosley but was he even top ten of his generation?

The only guys he was trying to fight were all welterweights.

Definitely knew his size and best attributes, I'll give him that.

One could also list David Lemieux, though the demand of 157 lbs adds a little asterisk to it if you did.

Nah, credit to Cotto. Great career.

    get real!
cotto is nowhere near an ATG
he was always in the mix without being truly elite before beating Martinez when he was ripe for the picking
he was a solid, gritty contender

Jeff Horn's a star now in Australia and will probably sell out Suncorp Stadium if he fights a name opponent. We'll see how the Corcoran fight sells. And Trout was never gonna be marketable --- kinda boring, no special effects, no power, and even less of a personality.

Mikey and Spence have an obscene amount of P4P hype and attention paid to them as well as tons of fans behind them. Beating Cotto would catapult them to a new level.
