I agree, I thought he did good in spells so hopefully this hasnt taken much out of him. Despite the loss last night I think he disproved a few myths that were about. A couple of good wins and he'll get Mayweather if he wants another crack at that level. If not theres plenty of other very good money making opportunities out there and belts to win.
Good post and you beat me to it. For goodness sakes, he just turned 29. He took a chance and fought Pac. I can't say the same for PBF. By the way, does anyone know if PBF attended the fight?
I think the dude will continue to take on all comers. If a steady decline seems to be the trend or if he takes another beating in the next fight or 2, then its time to go. But for now, there is no shame in losing to an ATG in Pac. I do see the points about him needing to go in another direction in terms of coaching. I've been thinking that for a while and that was confirmed by the lack of input from his corner during the fight.
collazo or cintron!! a good fight against two other puerto ricans that will more likely be a eliminator bout that hopefully be for the likes of berto-mosley winner. i think can win eith fight against cintron and collazo and i just would like to see a berto matchup with cotto if both man did win. but either way mosley wins he on a hotstreak himself so cotto rematch would be interesting where cotto will be the challenger. correct me if im wrong collazo is puerto rican right?? also for anyone who says cintron is light middleweight now cintron did say he still can fight at welterweight and he would like a fight with cotto. so there is always an option there.
Great post. He needs to work out what he wants to achieve and what he can achieve. He was beaten by, IMO, a HOF fighter, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. But if he is going to take undue punishment for small money, then he would be smarter to invest wisely and retire. If he is shot, a fight against durable and decent punchers like SSM, Berto, Margo would be dangerous to his health. Cotto may even beat Berto but the man can hit. A fight with PBF would probably be the best scenario for Cotto. No-one gives him a chance (even though he actually has a punchers chance), PBF hits like a featherweight and there would be good money, even if he took a small slice of the pie.
The part that makes me say retirement is that after about the 4th or 5th round he had nothing on his punches anymore. He was arm punching, and looked like a shot fighter. The raw aggression, skill, and power that we saw out of Cotto pre-Margarito was gone, and I didn't even fully see it in the first few rounds. The 7 figure paydays are gone for Cotto, unless he can beat a couple big name fighters (Mosley and Berto for instance).. but I don't think he can right now. He made a career payday, it's best to take the money and run.

I watched it live last night and am now watching it again - but this time in HD on Sky HD3. Looking at Cotto (a minute into the 9th round) at this stage he should retire. It isn't a pretty sight in high definition and when you watch the whole fight for a second time you realise how completely annihilated he was.
I think he should still chase a FMJ fight (he probably has more chance of securing it now) and make another good pay day, either that string 3 or 4 good wins together to get back up there.
