If you notice the training for the Margarito fight, in the 24/7 (and it was only a preview of it) it is great. The new trainer, Pedro Luis Diaz, is an expert in all what is relevant to boxing. He is teaching Cotto to punch going backwards, something he will need against Margarito. He is also making him train until exhaustion everyday and monitoring his cardio at all moments. In the sparring, he makes Cotto fight some rounds going forward, them one round going backwards, them he stop the training and make Cotto to do spins or turn in his axix for a minute and when he is totally dizzy or giddy, he makes Cotto immediately fight a round. This training is really awesome. Cotto will be in his best condition ever, and will show what a boxer he is. (And remember, Margarito will not be wearing the plaster) My prediction------ Cotto Will WIN Either by late rounds KO or TKO, or a UD.
i cant wait to see one of the best boxers put on a clinic that day while hopefully turning his eye to mush. lol at the above poster, i wonder how many rnds you could have withstood of being beat to a pulp with a cement fist
Cotto gonna beat Antonio's a$$ in this fight- Cotto is the type of fighter who doesn't take it like anything more than a job- with this fight, however, he is gonna make Tony pay for doin what he did and using the illegal wraps.
I've noticed very good things about his training too. Apart from your insight, I've noticed they're focusing on getting the better of inside exchanges against the taller man (which will inevitably happen, as well as Cotto may box). Cotto was always a decent inside fighter, but lacked the defense to really be great at it. They're doing lots of mitt drills that emphasize subtle rolls and blocks answered by counters and combinations. Cotto's punches will be shorter, and they will be more effective once he gets off and pivots out to restart. He can't cave and duck low to eat uppercuts again; he has to be more calm and fluid in his defense up close so he can dominate the action both outside and inside.
Anyone who's gullible enough to formulate an opinion on who will win based on a 24/7 episode is a complete ****ing idiot.
This. Same thing with weigh-ins. People see a guy with 1 more ab or one guy less nervous and they switch sides.
