I said I'd pick GGG over Cotto. Is that picking with my heart? You're the one claiming that every bum in the terrible middleweight division would beat down Cotto because he stomped out your beloved Martinez. It seems that you're unhappy with Cotto because hes removed Martinez from contention and are making disparaging predictions against Cotto to slate him. That is picking with your heart my friend.

 

Wow Cotto was one of the most loved figters ever here. But now is so hated, thats what happens when you beat a loved fighter like Martinez, pre Martinez Cotto was loved to the sky, post Martinez hated to hell. the same happened to Garcia post ESB top 3 overreted fighter p4 p in Mathysse. Cotto is not a freking midddleweight He just wanted to win the title to make history, not that He was strugling whit weight, His next fight is for the wbc jr middleweight title. Cotto do not belong there he is a blown up welterweight fighting at jr midddle.

 

The only two fights that was somewhat controversial are the Mosley and Clottey and those fights where close not controversial, and in boths fights the bast mayority of boxing experts scorred the fight for Cottto, so if the other fighter was the winner would been more controversial. Close fight is not the same of controversial like bradley vs Pac etc.

 

I wouldn't write Cotto off completely. I've heard they had a sparring session a few years back and Cotto dealt with Golovkin pretty well. It makes sense since to stop a fighter like Golovkin you need a good jab and Cotto's jab is among the best.

And its funny that you mention Cotto being overrated because I have long felt that Martinez is very overrated. His defense was always subpar. This is a man who got knocked down by the underwhelming JCC jr. Martinez has faced weak competition his whole career. His best win being Paul Williams. A fighter who simply did not utilize his natural attributes properly.

Whatever your personal biases maybe, you must admit that Cotto's legacy far exceeds that of Martinez.

 

I don't think this thread reflects the general feelings on the board. Martinez fans with an agenda may hate Cotto but I think he has earned the respect of most fans in general.

 

You must be kidding. I've never heard that before. The Clottey fight maybe. But he beat Mosely clearly.

 

Chavez is huge but at 160 he'd lose to Cotto because he is so unskilled. Kelly Pavlik was done at that point and still gave Martinez all he could handle.

 

Yet, Shane himself admitted he lost after the fight.

 

Margarito is much more skilled than Chavez Jr. Chavez Jr is a certified bum.
