Now the dust has settled. has his victory over foreman convinced people he isnt damaged goods? i think manny's victory over cotto is his best to date. it is up there with floyd's over mosley. and i wouldnt mind seeing the winner of floyd vs pac take on cotto at 154.
His skills are sharp as ever, but I have the sinking feeling that he will crumble as soon as he starts taking bombs from hard hitters. He's golden as long as he's kept away from the big hitters of the division. As for the winner of Pac/May...Floyd would've UD a prime Cotto, and Manny hits more than hard enough to crack his jaw some more. If Cotto proves me wrong and beats Margo in a rematch, or ends the PW hype, I'd be a happy man.
I don't know how much financial sense it makes, but honestly I could see the boxing sense in throwing him in with Spinks for a unification. Unifying at light middleweight would be very impressive to have on his record.
Exactly, and Spinks isn't a big hitter. Cotto can box and use his own power, without worrying about getting caught with something big. In NY, Cotto can make just about anything sell.
It's a shame we never got to see the best of Cotto. I think the Margarito loss threw him slightly off his trajectory.. I think he could beat Margarito in a rematch. I doubt he could beat Floyd, and i think Pacman would beat him again if it's at a catchweight. At full 154 limit i'm not sure. Arum is gona do him dirty tho. They should give him Spinks, or Zaveck, or Berto - He would beat them.
Dnt give up on Cotto so soon...I think he is gonna surprise alota guys out there, I'd like to see him in with Spinks next to unify and then end off of Margo
Well, he's in his late twenties, been fighting a long time, had some hard fights - he's definitely lost some of his lustre, but he's a elite level fighter still. Whatever your opinion of Foreman, Cotto did exactly what he was meant to when he was a level or two above him: he outclassed him comprehensively. People will revise history and say that Foreman was a bum and that Cotto simply exposed, but a faded Cotto would have struggled with Foreman's movement and jab. It depends who Miguel fights next, but his weakness will always be volume punchers who pressure him. If he gets to come forward, there aren't many guys who will beat him.
I was impressed with the way Miguel fought to the game plan, he executed brilliantly, he also stopped fighting with so much weight on the lead foot, of coarse there were time when he went back to that a little, like when he hurt Foreman and wanted to take him out, but generally he made a conscious effort to keep his weight in the middle, he also got hit with more right hands than i would like, due to fighting too flat footed at times, although that is to be expected, he needs time for his adjustments to become habits, i particularly liked the way he was cutting the ring down and pressing Foreman from behind the jab maintaining distance, thats what pleased me the most, as that was vital to beating Foreman and looking impressive.
still got good skills, bit damaged from the margarito fight but skill and power still there ! started off good in pac fight !
Still a very skillfull fighter that would beat most opponents out there. But I've lost confidence in his ability to absorbe punishment from the harder hitters. I'd love to see him regain that confidence he once had (recent signs suggest he's getting there), and avenge that Margarito night. If he did that, then ALL would be forgotten and he would recieve un imagenable amounts of respect from the boxing public.
Miguel is all class and whatever he decides, win or lose,I have nothing but respect for this dude.:thumbsup
