After watching the fight with Mosley in the wake of what Mosley did to Margo i feel Cottos standing rise, he clearly beat Shane although i think Shane didnt perform anywere near the level he did against Margo or is that because Cotto is that much better then Margo?
First off cotto-mosley fight was a close fight. If mosley didn't ran around the last round then he would have gotten at least a draw. Cotto is more talented than margarito but that doesn't mean he is better as we saw their last fight. Margarito made cotto quit. Styles makes fight, you can be better than your opponent and still lose. Look at Erik Morales vs Zahir Raheem fight. We all know morales is a hall of fame boxer and he loss to raheem cuz his style was bad for raheem. :good
Cotto didn't have the best strategy against Margo. He wasn't expecting that kind of a beast and who can blame him? In a rematch, Cotto would've won over Margarito, which I've been saying since right after the first fight. Also, Margarito isn't as bad as Mosley made him look. Mosley had the perfect strategy and executed it perfectly.
honestly, I was rooting for cotto against shane (they're my two favorites, but I had money on Cotto) but I thought Mosley won that fight. I had no problem with the decision going either way, though. I dont think Cottos stock rises at all until he fights again, if he looks impressive against Jennings his stock goes up. His loss to Margo shouldnt have affected his standing much anyways since it was a great back and forth fight between two evenly matched fighters. Both guys deserved props just for fighting each other.... one of them had to lose.
miguel cotto never used the jab against margarito, with no jab it allowed margarito to get in close and hurt cotto to the body, and when he had his back to the ropes he could hit him wherever he wanted. for mosley not only did the jab stop margarito walking him down and keep him at a distance where he could get his shots off, and it also set up the straight and over hand right.
not only was shanes strategy spot on, but he has a much better build for that strategy he is alot more athletic than cotto and he has a good reach advantage which came in very handy whilst staying infront of margo at range
To me it definitely raised Cotto's standing. As busted up as he was in the Marg fight and with what we found out about Margo's gloves in the Mosley, I've become very skeptical of his loss to Marg and I'm thinking it could have been a different fight perhaps without loaded gloves.
Nazeem Richardson is the clear difference between Shane's performance against Cotto and against Margo.
