Well, I finally put together a little Happy Lora compilation.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to get his fights with Zaragoza, Vasquez and Lopez yet, but when I do I'll think about making a part 2 to this vid.

Apologies in advance for the cheesy music :D :good

I can see why you're "happy" about Lora, Scientist!:D

His evasive skills are Pernell like.......

My favorite Happy Lora fight was his fight againt Gaby Canizales.......
I've told this story before, but I was watching that fight live with my brother on one of the spanish networks....
Happy Lora was the favorite, and I had told my brother that day that Gaby would give Lora a good fight because he worked the body well.....

.....very early in the fight Happy is having no trouble swarming and all over Gaby......it looks like Happy has Gaby hurt and pinned to the ropes....my brother is saying, "he's in trouble, he's in trouble".....

......I did'nt sense that Gaby was in deep enough trouble so that Happy could swarm in at the ropes and throw caution to the wind.....so as my brother said, "he's in trouble!"......I in turn immediately said, "he's playing possum, he's playing possum!"
......and lo and behold, I had'nt gotten my second sentence out of "he's playing possum" and Gaby pinned to the ropes gets off and lands a left hook out of hell that drops Happy like dropping a sack of potatoes off your back.....

How the hell Happy got up after that left hook is beyond me, but Gaby ended it very soon after dropping Lora!

Sorry to spoil the Happy Lora tribute Scientist, but I love telling that Lora-Gaby story that still to this day lives in my memory.......
.....everytime a fighter goes to the ropes and I feel he's there because he wants to be and not because he's seriously hurt, " I turn to my brother and tell him, "He's playing possum".....that phrase always brings both of us back the memory of Lora-Canizales!:D

Nice little brawl that one Vlade. Don't think Lora would have been caught like that in his prime, but I suppose even in his prime he sometimes liked to exchange recklessly and used to love throwing left hooks with abandon which was a worry for him.

Have you seen Happy's fights with Wilfredo Vasquez and Daniel Zaragoza by any chance? If you have wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on those fights.

If I did, I dont remember them Scientist, but in the next day or so, I'll try to search youtube for them, and give you my thoughts on them.

You're right about Happy Lora.....every once in a while during a fight, he'd be a risk taker......and thats something to like about him.:D;)

As expected, very good vid Scientist.

First time I ever read about Lora, I am going to have some serious research works about him. The guy had a nice jab and a good left hook let alone his evasive skills which kind of remind us of Sweet Pea's like Divac said.

I would love to see his fights against Zaragoza and Vasquez.

    Cheers jyuza :good

His jab and left hook were certainly his best punches.

I just love the confidence with which he goes about things. One of the great natural talents of the sport.

Haha, good stuff. I was thinking about picking out some song with the word 'happy' in the chorus, but thought that would have been a little too, too cheesy.

But in any case, what were my options?

Bob Marley's 'Don't Worry be Happy'?

The Partridge Family's 'Come on get Happy'?

    The 'Happy Days' theme song?

Or how about if you're happy and you know it clap your hands?

I think his defense is most reminiscent of Benitez's especially when he is up against the ropes. Great radar.

    Really ?
It has been a while since last time I watched Benitez (last one was against Sugar) so I don't remember at all. I will have to check that out too :good

Wow he looks quality. At first he looked more content to use the stationary defence than even Locche, then towards the end of the vid you see how he swung hugs inside another man's offense, really impressed with that.

Happy didn't mind mixing it up, that's for sure. Could definitely go in for the kill too when the mood struck him.
