Mijares should retire if he can't beat this guy. He fought like an amateur against Napa. He was fortunate Napa has some kind of growth problem and is 3 feet tall with average foot movement. Thats always been Napa's kryptonite, somebody that uses range and is fast on their feet which is basically all Bouziane did. It was still amateurish and didn't impress me.

Main problem with Mijares is strength/power I think. Against Darchinyan the firepower difference was pretty crucial. It's not much fun when your opponent hurts you with every punch and you can't do **** yourself. Unless you're absolutely exceptional thats not a good situation and more often than not it isn't ending well. Plus he seemed to struggle with how unorthodox Darchinyan was whereas Mijares has a fairly classical style with some old school pivots/upper body movement thrown in but he couldn't find a rhythm at all against Vic and looked shellshocked throughout. Since then he's likely struggled for confidence after such a good unbeaten run came crashing to a halt, though its possible Cermeno was better than expected.

 

I don't like Gonzalez moving up any further than he has already.

His power already failed to carry up from straw to light fly, IMO - and that is his absolute ceiling. Going up to full fly chasing Segura is a bad, bad idea and I've been saying so since Gonzalez-Vargas (and even more enthusiastically since Segura-Calderon II).
