wow, this is the first time i've seen this. morales looked like he lost most of his physical attributes, but his technicality is still there (atleast with this opponent). Now i wonder if he can improve his conditioning and add some speed and power. if he can do that, it would be wonderful seeing morales beat up fighter after fighter
at the end he said "I got ktfo by Darchiniyan and all i got was this shirt missing the 2 top buttons"
Erik looks too fat at this weight, he needs to get to a trimmer weight but without draining himself too much if he is to complete the comeback & take a 4th title.
I thought they were fighting at 142, but it appeared that they both decided to weigh 147. I think Morales can do 140 without being drained, but obviously not against the very best at 140. Morales-JMM is doable.
Bill, he needs to retire. Prime Erik was a **** storm, this was an embarrassment. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfCiwdeqt_g[/ame] ****, Erik was good wasn't he.
Yeah I forgot how good Morales was, it just takes the first 30 seconds of a video like this to remind you though. :thumbsup
Erik definitely still has the goods, I think he just needs to add lean muscle mass which will help burn the blub out. I'm surprised how strong he is at 140Ibs, I expected him to outfox Alfaro, but in many of the exchanges he was actually outmuscling him. There again, he was an absolute rake at 122. Not sure I want to see him beat Marquez, that fight ought to have happened a decade ago. Lovemore N'Dou should be a good stepping stone to stiffer challenges.
It's clear that Morales is fat and not effective at the weight and neither was Marquez. Alfaro was shutout and destroyed by DeMarco already and yet Morales barely beats the guy in a competitive fight. If he can't get himself back to 135lbs and fight JMM he should just retire.
I think 140 would be better for him but I don't think he can make that anymore and still feel healthy enough to fight. He fought Alfaro who is a lifetime lightweight. At 147 he'll find out much like Corrales and Castillo did that the weight will be too much to carry when he steps it up in class.
He was out of action for 2.5 years, and at 33, widely expected to be burnt out, went up against a guy who is just 26 and had 12 fights at 135, plus another 12 at 140, against just one for Erik at 135Ibs, and STILL Erik outbrawled him. He can only sharpen from here on. What's clear is that Erik is back - watch this space!!
