Has anyone noticed that Mijares looks alot taller than 5ft 6, Navarro is listed as 5ft 5 1/2 and Cristian looks a couple of inches taller than him.
Nice display of defence both rounds eh? He gets hit here and there, but always rolls with it and makes these guys miss a whole lot in the process, I wonder when his absolute peak is going to be, consistent improvements.
Yeh his defence is what impressed me most about his performance against Navarro. Jose threw something like 1300 punches and only landed around 10%. Mijares was also standing in the pocket alot and the fact he can avoid 90% of the punches from a fairly accurate boxer like Navarro is a testament to his defence. I think Cristian's biggest weakness is that he stands in the pocket to much and likes to trade, it almost cost him the decision in the Kawashima and Maldanado fights. He hasn't done it as much lately which is a good sign, but i think if he just fought on thoutside he'd dominate people far easier (like in the Arce fight).
1300? Very impressive if that was kept at 10%, as the fight went on, Navarro's lands dwindled down to near nothing as he was peppered with Mijares' accurate work, Jose's face showed that also. At least most people gave Navarro the credit he deserves as a decent fighter, competitive with the top of the division, save for Tokuyama and Mijares, whom beat him very decisively. I think Mijares landed over 300 on Navarro total, Navarro's got a decent defence normally himself. I Mexican machismo mate... it gets the best of them, these guys are warriors through and through.:yep But he's been better about that lately. Damn uppercut he landed on Navarro right there in the 2nd was beautiful, I wish I had more of the fight so I could point out some of his finer defensive manuvers while countering to some of the doubters. He's unstoppable from the outside against his 115 pound competition, at 118 it'll get a little thicker but I think he'll be fine there as well.
I can't find the exact punchstats right now but apparently Navarro threw the 2nd highest amount of punches in Super Flyweight history. If I remember correctly he only landed about 130. Mijares threw about 775 and landed double Navarro (260ish). Very impressive stuff from Cristian. To find the rest of the fight go to YouTube and into the video you just linked. In the description there is a link to the site showing all 6 parts of the fight. :good Im not sure if its still there cause YouTube is ****ed on my computer and it keeps coming up with errors on the page... And your right, that uppercut was masterful.
A prime example of mastery. :good Just those 2 rounds show how awesome Mijares is. Navarro had to throw a lot because he was landing 1 out of every 10. I can't wait for his fight in 3 weeks and will most likely be put at the top of the division. :yep I don't get why Mirajes and Arce are both on two different PPV cards on the same day though, they both have the same promoter.:huh
well, no doubt mijares' main goal right now is to become the UNDISPUTED SUPERFLYWEIGHT CHAMPION.. props to amsty for recognizing the talent of this guy.. due to that, many people here on esb are turning their attention to this special fighter from mexico war mijares!:thumbsup
