Scant mention of the man these days not a word.....how quickly we fall from grace! and yet no one waxes lyrical about Darchinian? Nonito Donaire I guess is the reason. whats the deal with Nonito? your thoughts on Vic D and was Mijares exposed?
I'd still favor Mijares over Donaire. Sort of an Ali-Frazier-Foreman situation. I'm the author of the official CM express, which I bump every couple of weeks (thanks for the reminder, incidentally ). I was touting Cristian as the truth on ESB before Amsterdam.
i was on the mijares bandwaggon, but in my defense i can say that i had seen no indication that he might perform so poorly or that vic would box so well. i think that for the first time he was presented with a puzzle he couldnt solve and he didnt know how to respond. he will be back and hopefully he can be better prepared next time.
I think I participated in that. It was all in good fun, the same way Pacquiao fans use hyperbole to comic effect. :good The difference was that Pacquiao gets plenty of media exposure on his own, and the word-of-mouth campaign here was to help bolster the tiny bit of awareness the Arce fight started to generate.
Darchinyan is a much better fighter than many give him credit for. Very extensive amateur career (that included wins over reigning Cuban Olympic gold medalists) and an awkward Eastern European southpaw style that most Mexican & latino fighters would never have encountered before. Go watch the Vic v Mijares fight again. It's actually a very high quality fight fought at a brisk pace with plenty of intense exchanges. Mijares can certainly be a player at 118 once he gets a couple of wins under his belt & regains his confidence. As for Hall of Fame claims, Darchinyan is one of about six fighters in the last 20 years who has been able to win fights consistently in North America despite being based on the other side of the world. That alone should tell you he's a cut above.
