Yesterday was the first time i saw Mijares. All i heard about him before was the he was one of the best p4p fighter in the game. I really like Darchinyan. Is techniques looks a bit amateur and he is very awkward but he always make it interesting. But, my opinion is that a top p4p fighter should be able to dispose of that kind of fighter.

    Am i wrong?

I dont think a p4p should be able to dispose of someone like vic because, vic is THAT GOOD... but you def shouldnt get beat up and dominated and stopped like that every round just about, especially when the guy your fighting is smaller then you IMO

Yeah, yesterday was also the first fight i saw of Mijares. Obviously, not impressed. Vic had superior hand speed which offset anything Mijares wanted to do.

Did Mijares just have a bad night or was he somewhat overrated all this time because again, the guy i saw yesterday did not stand out as "elite".

He's still world-class and I still pick him, as far as styles go, over Montiel and Donaire. Darchinyan just presented something he hadn't seen before and he didn't cope well AT ALL.

He made a lot of mistakes. Forgot his jab, fell for feints, he fought Darchinyan's fight.

Maybe it was a bad night, maybe it was just Vic's style, but he looked horrible compared to other performances.

I haven't seen much of him myself, but I don't think that a guy who holds 2 belts and is regarded by many as a top p4p fighter is that shitty.

Some say Vic's style (and improved version) gave Mijares all kinds of problems, surprised him and threw him completely off his game.

Others claim Mijares doesn't have the mentality of a "real" champion, after all.

Obviously it's a mixture of all of the above.

If you watch his arc of improvement from the 2nd Kawashima fight on, you witness the rise of a VERY special fighter. He thought he had Darchinyan all cased out from a mile away, and he was dead wrong. Now the "overrated hypejob" comments are flying like toasters on an early 90's screensaver. Sad.

Mijares usually looks much better. Vics defense is so improved that I see him giving most people trouble. This was NOT the same Vic that lost to Donaire. I was thrilled when Vic got KO'd because his technique was **** and he just bullied people. Since that loss he has gone back to the drawing board and what a refreshing change it is! I'll be the first to say I never liked the guy, but he is deserving of respect for what he has accomplished. It takes a lot of work to break those habits and he obviously put in the hours.

The difference seemed to be Vic's superior hand speed. His left hand was brutal because he was throwing body shots, straight lefts, and upper cuts and it all started out with the same motion and i think Mijares had no answer for that. Anyone else notice this?

I've gotten over it. Anyone who had seen a good amount of Mijares other performances will tell you he fought the wrong fight, and its' a good possibility that he did so due to Vic's own style and how badly he hurt him in the first round. He was walking in without throwing a jab, which is his best punch. Things got out of his control and he couldn't adjust to the situation, he couldn't adjust to Vic's style. When Mijares is allowed to fight his fight (Munoz, Arce, and Navarro his best showings) he looks spectacular. Mijares was not able to fight his usual fight last night, and he couldn't do anything to change that.
