Definitely an interesting fight, but Mijares has this one in the bag I believe.. I'd much rather see Darchinyan vs Arce & Donaire/Montiel vs Mijares..

I expect it to be quite similar to Mijares-Arce.

It would be fun to watch, not because it will be competitive, but because it will likely be one of the better performances of probably the most skilled fighter in boxing today.

    I personally see a shutout.

Im thinking a similar result to the Arce fight but it wont be the same fight. Vic was/is better than the post flyweight Arce, more awkward, more explosive. Vic is going to come at him with a different approach than Arce did.
Mijares will get it under control pretty quickly but I dont see him dominating early on as much he did in the Arce fight.
I dont think Mijares will land 3 times as many punches on Vic than Vic will land on him, like in the Arce fight.

Really looking forward to this one. GO THE RAGING BULL!!!! Though I really do like Mijares.

    Montiel takes them both out.

As in what do I think of Z Gorres because he nearly beat Montiel?

Look Montiel looked bad in that fight and the too sharp fight was another example of how a slick fighter will give Montiel trouble for at least a while.

My opinion on Montiel is that he epitomizes the boxer-puncher. He can box and he can punch & slug but he isnt a specialist at either. So when Gorres came at him with that style of his he seemed a little torn on how to handle it, eventually he was doing enough damage to Gorres to keep him under wraps.
Much like the too sharp fight, Montiel tried to get cute with too sharp early on and got essentially schooled. Got knocked down and then woke up and outworked him for much of the second half of the fight.

They are supposed to fight again soon, hopefully that comes off and Montiel can win more definitively this time.
I had that fight for Montiel because I gave his harder punching more points in the closer rounds, the crowd went crazy just for Gorres throwing punches, but a lot landed on the gloves and the ones that got through didnt have much on them. Montiel was patient and landed the harder shots, though he should have had a bit more urgency against a filo in the phillipines.
Darchinyan got robbed by bad reffing in the Gorres fight. He seemed to knock down or hurt Gorres everytime he landed clean, Z basically just held and ducked low for most of that fight to avoid getting stopped.

As for a Mijares-Montiel clash? Im hoping he would have learnt by then that he has to wear his more aggressive hat for this fight because he will have a hard time outboxing Mijares. Mijares deserves the credit and accolades he is getting but some people are blowing him out into this unbeatable machine, which he isnt.

Thank you, Showtime! Mijares should outclass him, but at least the first few rounds will be very tense. Great way to end 2008. I'm more excited for this than the Golden Piso.

Good post.. I really would like to see the rematch between Gorres & Montiel take place.. I do think Gorres could pull the upset against Montiel in the rematch, but it'll be close again.. But the guy I'm looking to be one of the top fighters in the division is Nonito Donaire.. Perhaps after Donaire's fight in November, he could get some kind of title shot against Mijares or Montiel..

He is a chance against any of them.

He beats Darchinyan in the rematch, which Vic will happily accept if Shaw wants him to.

I dont think Vic gives him the fight on a platter like the first time but Nonito will stomp him again im afraid.
I dont think Nonito should bother with flyweight anymore, the Japanese champs make good money staying where they are. Naveraz has burnt a lot of bridges in the U.S and seems happy to defend his title in obscurity in Argentina, venturing to Europe every now and then.

Montiel vs Donaire makes me salivate. That would be an awesome fight
