I would like to see the Darhinyan/Mijares rematch. Even though Mijares was dominated and never in the fight - I like to believe that he would actually try to box in a rematch instead of slugging it out and lunging at the guy that was supposed to be the slugger/brawler.

The same people who have disrespected Crisitian Mijares after his loss, are the same people who are dismissing a rematch. Think about it. They can't play down Mijares talent like they are only to be proven wrong in a rematch - that would be to embarrassing for them. It's easier for them to believe that Vic has Mijares number, and no adjustements can be made to counter Vic's unorthodox style. Having said that, if Mijares did win in a rematch, I wouldn't be the only one sporting a Mijares avatar.

Boxing needs guys like Vic, he's a villain. Likable or not he proved many people wrong and did it in huge way with all that was at stake (unification). He's a cocky little guy with a big mouth but hard to dispute what he says when he backs it up like he did last night.

Do you think the outcome of a Mijares vs Darchinyan rematch would be vastly different to last night? I am not saying it won't but I'd seriously expect Vic to do much of the same.

The Donaire fight holds answers to a lot more questions about the two fighters, to me anyway.

If it was the norm for Mijares not to counter puncher, not throw the jab, not throw combinations, and to brawl instead of box - I would be inclined to agree. However, Mijares last night did night fight the way we've seen him fight, and the style that has seen him climb up the ladder. He boxed Arce's ears off, ducking and slipping, countering with combinations, and throwing double and tripple jabs for 12 rounds. Cristian was over confident and had never come across a style like Vic's before. Getting knocked down and badly hurt in the 1st round made it almost impossible for adjustements to be made.

The fact Mijares didn't try and fight his normal fight, would lead me to believe that adjustments can be made in a rematch.

Coming into this fight I only watches a couple of clips of Mijares and couldn't determine how he would handle the pressure. I also wasn't sure how fast he was or slick. Against Darchinyan he looked slower and less explosive, didn't have good footwork (stayed in range most of the fight), and appeared he didn't offer anything for Vic to be afraid of; like many of the other Vic ko victims. Someone to beat Vic will have to have a good chin and be elusive enough to avoid his left hand bombs (i.e. Donaire).

I think in a rematch the result is the same, with Darchinyan winning. He is too strong and explosive for Mijares. Mijares may do better than the first bout, but I don't see him winning.

Honestly? I'd favour Vic 60-40. But 40% is a hell of a chance and I don't believe Mijares was so highly regarded for nothing before the Vic fight.
He should be able to adjust and make it a competitive fight. Even if he can't do that, I'd like to see the fight to make sure. :good

That said, Donaire/Vic would be up for grabs, no doubt about it.

That's the point I'm trying to make. Mijares has shown the elusiveness in before fights to suggest he could avoid Vic's telegraphed punches. Mijares has also taken some heavy shots from some good fighters and not flinched. The Mijares that fought last night is not the Mijares that fought Arce, Navarro, and Munoz.

Obviously the man deserves a chance to avenge the loss but the fight happened less than twenty-four hours ago. It's the timing that makes the Vic V Nonito fight so much more damn appealing to me.

I'm not suggeting Mijares should jump right back in the ring with Vic again in a few months. He should have a tune up fight, and fight the winner of Nonito vs Vic. I don't think Mijares is out of the picture because of last nights result.

Of course not. To even suggest it would be stupid.

He's obviously a great fighter but that was one hell of a beating he took last night. It, would be one hell of an achievement to turn that result over. Some would say that he merely needs to make a few tweaks and fight his own fight but it may require as much mental effort beforehand as physical effort.

Arce is a slower and less powerful guy than Vic, not to mention a more conventional type of brawler than Vic . I think what surprised Mijares was the hand speed and explosiveness of Vic in addition to his ackwardness of how he throws his punches. It seemed he never adjusted and had already got caught in the second round, when he was dropped and it was too late. After tha knock down his mind set changed and he semed afraid of Vic to be honest. Despite his bravado and display of telling Vic to hit him, he seemed afraid of Vic's power.

Vic Darchinynan telegraphs all of his punches. He has speed, but he still shows when the uppercut is coming. Everytime Vic threw an uppercut, Mijares lunged into it. I don't know why Mijares couldn't stay straight up, because then he wouldn't have had to take those uppercuts which ultimately lost him the fight. I think he stands more upright, takes a step back when Vic comes lunging in, he can be more competitive in a rematch. Also when the two are waitingto get set, don't let Vic get set. Pump that tripple jab in his face, so even if he does throw the uppercut or winging left hook, it won't land.
