Christian Mijares is one of the best all-around fighters in the game today, to those who have seen footage of past great fighters at 115, how does he do in a H2H sense against each of the best since the weightclass has been established? Watanabe, Galaxy, Tapia, Roman, Moon, and so on.
I think we need to wait till his career is played out before we really know how he will fare against the elite retired fighters. he could show some real stylistic vulnerabilities in one of his next fights against a lesser opponent for all we know.He is a very good fighter though and i like him. Right now i'm inclined to favour them all over him to varying degrees.I don't think he would be an easy fight for anyone. He's a lot more skilled than Galaxy or Moon overall.I don't know how he would cope with the power and pressure those guys bring(and we know Moon can beat a skilled boxer puncher like Konadu)as though he can slip punches well, he likes to mix things up, while not being a particularly notable mover. Galaxy would be his most likely victim style wise and i could see him bothering Watanabe due to Jiro's tendency to neglect his jab.
Its hard at this stage, his dominance is only starting to begin and he really needs to take care of his other rivals first like Montiel, Vic and Donaire. I agree with you Mantequilla, that on paper his skills would trump guys like Moon and Galaxy at least for a while. But both guys were very strong and relentless, hard to say if he could stick to him gameplan, especially over 15. I personally think he would have a very decent chance against Tapia, that would be a great matchup and if Mijares keeps on winning Id be inclined to favour him later on.
Of the fighters listed, who do you consider the best? I've only seen a small amount of Watanabe, Galaxy, and Tapia, but nothing yet of Roman or Moon.
I think there is some film of Roman on the Tube cobra. He had a good mix of skill and athletic ability, good counter puncher from what Ive seen. And Im pretty sure of Moon aswell. He is good value.
I'll have to check it out. I haven't looked at Youtube yet. Of the film you've seen, who of those listed was most impressive to you? Granted it's a small amount I have seen of each and as Mantequilla stated it's a bit too early in Mijares' career to tell, but I've yet to see anything from Watanabe, Tapia, or Galaxy that impresses me anymore than he does, but I'll need more footage to make any real decision on how he stacks up with those others.
I honestly believe Mijares is the best all around fighter in the game today, power aside. It's true he isn't a big mover, but his defense, upper-body movement, and ability to maintain distance with subtle footwork allow him to keep out of harm just as effectively IMO, so I don't see his lack of bounce in his step as an issue. I see greatness in him. An early call I know, but we'll see what happens.
some of the youtube footage Gilberto Roman http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=q7G_qd2HioY watanabe http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1gb4jZK6H6Q
Awful performance by Mijares. It's possible he underestimated Vic a bit, but he doesn't look good for beating Galaxy or especially Moon anymore. It'll be interesting if he can turn this around.
And we saw what happened..... I agree Mantequilla, the guy is clearly a very skilled fighter based on past performances, but he just looked terrible last night. Mentally he was done after the first knockdown and never got into any kind of rhythm. I mistook his flat out arrogance for confidence it seems.
