Mikaël Zewski vs. Jose de Jesus Macias, 8 rounds @ super welterweight

 

Round 1

Zewski is ki is attacking the body consistently. Macias is dancing around, pawing his jab. Macias tries reaching across the gap with a few torpedo rights but Zewski able to pick them off with his forearms. High j abs flicked by Macias at range, not coming near target. Zewski accurate with long body shots.

Round 2

Zewski is spiraling in closer now, rolling his head and neck under the Macias jab and working combinations on the body now. Zewski is stalking and dipping left to avoid Macias' big left hooks on the body. Zewski shooting up from a crouch with a line drive jab, Macias narrowly sidestepping it.

Round 3

Zewski has a bloody nose, Macias connecting with some jabs. Zewski tapping Macias above the belt line with the jab and coming across with the right. Macias shooting primarily jabs up from the hip, carrying his left arm low, shoulder popped up over his chin protectively. Zewski not headhunting much anyway. Feint at the chest and Zewski slides in with a hook at the body, Macias backpedaling to dodge.

Round 4

Zewski is getting clapped up close with some left hooks, Macias getting bolder and taking initiative. Zewski backed up by a 1-2, smearing blood all over his face, nose flowing openly now like a faucet. Zewski works a couple of stiff, straight shots on the body leaning forward but mostly for show. He seems to be taking a rest here, and Macias is stepping up the aggression. Zewski pumps a few high jabs, blocked. Macias whips a couple of body shots in and falls in with an overhand right. Zewski weaves and counters and steps backward from the pocket. Macias hurts Zewski with a chopping combo bearing down on him. They slug in the pocket and Zewski connects on a PEACH of a left hook at point blank, depositing Macias on his ass.

KO4? - feed cut out right at the knockdown.

Funny, I was about to give Macias that round before he got caught. Went down pretty hard. Would be impressive to have gotten up..

 

Well, if that was the fight-ending sequence it appeared to be, then we have learned that Zewski continues to be what I've always thought of him as: moderately talented but with plenty of flaws (probably irreversible at this stage, over thirty bouts into his pro career), somewhat basic in his offensive fundamentals and with porous defense but a good enough chin to get away with it (at certain levels), and decidedly above-average pop.

"El Changuito" Macias, interestingly, has only ever been stopped once before in 32 previous bouts - and by an 0-1-1 unknown! (even though Macias has been in with the likes of Giovanni Santillan and Erickson Lubin)

 

Damn, we're missing the best part of this, it sounds like. Both tiring and getting clipped with each other's best.
