Nasty hook by Marroquin. They're coming together and slamming together with their arms up in the air and wrapping around their backs. Beranza is windmilling on the inside, trying to do some incidental damage in the clinches. Marroquin just isn't working, only holding. Mouthpiece came out from Beranza while he's throwing; pause to replace. Beranza is running headlong into him and throwing hard jabs and putting all his power into overhand rights that are clipping Marroquin below the eyes with at least the mass of the radius bone. Marroquin's eye is badly puffed. Beranza loses his mouthpiece AGAIN. (not intentional, IMO) Point taken. Marroquin lands a counter uppercut while Beranza flurries at him and snaps his head back with a right hand. Beranza chases while Marroquin hops away.

I've always liked Beranza, and he hasn't lost his fighting spirit by any means - but he's an old and roughly worn 35. His days as a prospect spoiler and possible Cinderella contender might be over.

Still, knocking him down twice and nearly shutting him out is an impressive result for young Marroquin. :good

Richard Abril seems to be pretty comfortably outclassing Julio Camano on the Costa Rican card.

I'm still waiting for the Premier commentator to say what round they're in, as there isn't a graphic showing it. It does sound like Magee and Barboza should be on after this.

 

Round 1

Martinez comes out bombing! Quezada absorbs a lot of leather before holding and pushing off. Quezada throws a left hook while stepping back, landing well. Martinez is a buzzsaw, coming forward and throwing hard soaring shots with abandon. Quezada gets clocked hard with a left hook to the temple, while landing an uppercut of his own. Martinez is slowing down a bit, throwing a high right jab. Really crisp stuff from Martinez, and workmanlike. Hard right hooks to the body by Martinez. Really getting low and putting torque on them. When he's done hooking the body Martinez just straightens up and starts to snap hard right jabs up into Quezada's face. Martinez is all over him. Quezada runs, and flails with uppercuts while nearly backing into a corner.

Actually, not too bad. Colonel Bob summed it up well that "the action was somewhat give and take but Marroquin was always able to edge the rounds (the first seven anyway)".

Beranza made him earn it, bringing good constant pressure and sneaking in some good shots. He was just outmatched physically by a fresher talent.
