Martinez is throwing hard right hooks and looping lefts to the body, diving in on Quezada and ramming into him low with his bulky shoulders. Quezada is getting busted up from his beltline to his brow, and is leaking blood from the septum. Martinez completely overwhelms him with a bludgeoning combo. Quezada goes to a knee. Over a minute left. Quezada gets up and digs with a pair of uppercuts to the stomach but they don't make Martinez even blink. Martinez puts Quezada on the ropes like a dog with a chew toy and just hammers him back down as the referee decides enough is enough.

Nice showing for Sammy "The Marine" Martinez, and a nice treat for the Denver crowd. Both guys are Colorado natives.

One of them (Kugler) was a judge in Marroquin-Beranza, and the referee here is one of the other judges from earlier (Thrasher).

They both seemed to get that right, so at least we know they're not total ****ups. :!:

 

Round 1

Alvarado gets to work with a backhand jab from the hip as his hometown supporters chant "303" (his area code). Martinez is pushed back to the corners but still working both hands, throwing a lot of quick hooks and right hands into the gloves of Alvarado. Big right hand from Alvarado carries him off balance and into the ropes as Martinez ducks him. No punch landed by Martinez as he was focused on getting out of Alvarado's way, so no worry about an erroneous knockdown call from the inexperienced ref. Alvarado gets up and scores a knockdown! Waving jab by Alvarado, just trying to set up power shots. Martinez has to clinch as Alvarado presses him.
