Micheal Gomez completed his final 'big' training session in front a host of fans last night at Maree Leisure in Clitheroe. Gomez completed his workout with 12 rounds of relentless punching that confirmed for all present that Mike is in the shape of his life for the commonwealth title fight this coming friday.

Gomez promised to dedicate his forthcoming victory to trainer Kevin Marees mother who sadly passed away last week. This sad event has further motivated Gomez who realises this is will surely be his final fight of this magnitude if he were to lose.

Gomez has also been spurred on by a seies of pretty bizzare press releases such as this one http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/...oo-of-him-lying-on-the-canvas-86908-21213157/ and statements allegedly from Burns' trainer Billy Nelson such as this:

"What I would say is that there is every chance that Gomez will be stopped and he may well be badly hurt in the process.

Burns and Nelson are deluding themselves if they sincerely think Mike is coming for a payday. He realises the significance of the match up and has prepared for the bestpossible Ricky Burns. A press release when the match was made from the Burns camp indicated they would try to take advantage of a percieved stamina problem. If they have prepared for anything less then a hungry Micheal Gomez in the best shape of his career they may well be wishing different come friday night.

A lot of time has been spent watching Burns and guessing what type of strategy he will bring on the 27th we're pretty certain that they realise they would be completely mad to try and stand with Mike but if they do I can promise you Micheal is ready for 12 rounds of brutality. If Burns runs early expecting Gomez to tire, its not going to happen and likewise if Burns tries to draw the sting out of Micheal early like Johannson did and then switch to his jab after a handful of rounds he will find that Micheal has prepared for that scenario too.

Burns inability to infight effectively has been noted as has the fact that there have long been rumours of issues making 9st 4lbs. Mike will not be suprised by Burns under-rated power or Rickys often reflexive left hook counters. Right hook to body? Its all been taking into account and prepared for and If Ricky doesn't bring something new then I have no doubt the Commonwealth title will be coming back to manchester with us on friday night.

Gomez has purposefully locked himself away from the distractions of the past and with assistance from some very familiar names from within the industry has had a near flawless training camp.

Speaking to Kevin Maree yesterday he confirmed that he had never seen Gomez so fired up in preperation for a contest 'We have prepared for a world title fight and really hope the press releases are an indication that Burns has taken Gomez lightly'.

'We thoroughly respect Burns and his team but I have to admit I am a little disappointed at some of the things that have been said in the build up to the fight. Talking about fighters been seriously hurt is a no, no in anyones book'.

'I don't think Burns has the power to keep Gomez off him for 12 rounds, nor the speed to keep out of his way'.

It seems certain that next weeks fight will be a FOTY contender.

Great fight. Ricky Burns is a quality operator and by no means would I expect Gomez to expect anything less. I've always been a big fan of Michael's, a true honest warrior of the ring who comes to give it all.
He's one of those fighter's you can never count out, because just when you think he's done he'll come storming back. I remember people saying he was shot years ago, then he fought Alex Arthur....

He's also a very nice and humble man. I was last in Manchester three years ago (for Calzaghe-Lacy) and walking through the city on a Saturday afternoon, I bumped into Michael in the street. Very graciously he stopped and chatted and posed for a photo. Class act.
    Looking forward to Friday night!

Burns is quality but lacks a big punch. So this fight is certainly 50:50.

Burns makes the weight as easy as any fighter out there.

I can't understand the Gomez camp complaining about Burn's words especially after Gomez's unsporting antics at the press confrences.
People are dillusional if they think that Gomez is going to turn back the clock, he's looked like an old man with no stamina and work rate in all of his recent outings and he's up against a maturing Ricky Burns who as a great chin and is as tough as they come.

I hope Gomez gets into great shape and comes with his A game.

Burns has little power but did have a fantastic stoppage of a guy who went the distance with Ali Funeka!

I really hope Gomez wins this one. If Gomez is in any kind of fit state, him vs. Kevin Mitchell could be domestic FOTY no doubt. And one last domestic scrap before Mitchell (finally) gets some good fights.

Burns is an under-rated puncher. He also stopped Silence Saheed and hit hard enough to stop Graham Earl, Carl Johansson and Alex Arthur in their tracks more then once. He put Alan Temple over too when he needed to, to pull out a win in a close four rounder. He's not an out and out banger due to the way he approaches matched but he hits hard enough with single shots to get your attention. He also KO'd Gary Young in sparring and I heard he beat Kevin Anderson too. Good, good fighter Ricky.

I just can't honestly see Gomez getting the job done past round 6. We'll see.

Gomez is going to shock a lot of people come friday. His power is phenominal for a guy at 9st 4lbs.... The sparring he has been doing has been well above his weight division and his hitting, even with 16oz gloves and headguards has been giving some very talented fighters a great deal of difficulty.
