Two fighters that could not conceivably be any more different... One with an extensive amateur career and endless hype culminating in an Olympic gold medal, & carefully groomed vs a fighter who had almost no amateur career as far as I know, and who's ability was almost entirely innate and self taught. Much like Gypsy Joe, Hunter was an enigma in the ring.

That 8 round loss to Botha of Hunter's was what I would call a fluke.

Russell, let it be said right now,...I was a huge fan of Mike The Bounty Hunter...he was a clever, original Jimmy Young type IMO...explaining why I was a fan.

I like him a lot too. I think it's a absolute shame how little information there is about the man, compounded by him passing away in his 40's.

It's funny, his son is currently bouncing between cruiserweight and heavyweight with good success, and just gave one of the P4P best fighters in the world, Usyk, a better match than the boogey man of the division, Murat Gassiev.

Mike was like a Joey Giardello...no amateur career, but a graduate of the "Wizard's School of Hard Knocks"...

I guess I have to start paying more attention to the modern scene if Mike Hunter's progeny is out there!!

Mike the Hunter had a nice chin on him, like my man Jimmy.
