He could've gotten Karass out of there several times last night, but seemed content to just box from the outside and not go for the kill. He almost seemed disinterested in the last round, barely throwing any punches and he damn sure wasn't looking for a knockout. Very appealing fighter on the surface, but nobody wants to see a guy like Jones beat the hell out of someone for 12 rounds and look like he has no interest in getting his opponent out of there. He likely didn't earn any new fans tonight.
Uh, yeah, I watched the first fight. Karass was ready to go at any time, but Jones was content to just wait it out. Like I said, no killer instinct. It's not like he even had to trade shots with him to get a KO, he would've just needed to put his foot on the gas pedal...rather than the bike pedal. I'm not saying it was a 'bad' performance, but he just didn't endear himself to fight fans last night.
No you didn't watch the fight, Check out round 2 and what was the result of that round for Mike Jones.
Mike Jones is nothing special. A guy that is supposed to be a threat in the WW division should be doing better than what he has done against Karass in these 2 fights. I don't think he will be a big problem for the elite.
Jones fought a smart discplined fight, after doing in the first fight exactly what you're saying you wanted him to do in trying to get Soto-Karrass out of there and he ended up taking a lot of punishment in what should've been scored a loss for him. His trainer would almost 100% happy with his performance in the rematch.
Exactly. The welters are a tough lot, so he is going to have to step it up if he wants to be able to compete. And I agree fully that he should've done better against Karass considering the skill disparity between the two.
I guess you didn't see where Karass was ready to go, eh? He was beaten to a pulp. his body was fire engine red from all the bodyshots. Jones could've gotten the kill tonight, but he just didn't have it in him.
i agree, it seems he was ok to cruise at the end. Not a smart move if you can get a guy out of there that still had some rounds won. He took a chance leaving it with the judges. He clearly won imo, but if Soto-Karass won one more round one of the judges would have had a draw. I also think he need to improve his footwork. He brings his feet toghether a lot and also croses them when he dances around the ring. Soto is very slow but he was able to catch him with looping punches in those instances and it sent Jones offbalance and out of position. He has some gifts, but he needs to polish if some of his fundements. In reality, I had Soto winning 4 rounds. 2 of those he wouldnt have won if Jones was more in control. If Soto had any kind of hand/footspeed he may have even won. And the fact that he still managed to have sucess by walking straight in and not cutting the ring off, shows that Jones has to make some improvements. Another obsevation, Max was all on his This content is protected all night only giving Soto the 1st round. He gave Soto very little credit. Good thing for Roy being there casue he gave Soto more props in a fight he was never out of.
