It'd be competitive for a while, but I think McCallum takes a very solid points win as he comes on strong in the second half of the fight.
.............I agree with Russell's synopsis. This is a close, tactical battle for the first six rounds or thereabouts, then McCallum's class comes out and he starts to take over. Taylor's size and strength and good showings against another cagey "pro's pro" in Hopkins can't be discounted here.
For a preview of this fight... see McCallum-Watson. Mike would have given Taylor a career ending beating.
as i read this thread, i remembered Mike Watsons battle with McCallum.. Mike was a specialist at what he did.. he truly was the bodysnatcher.. I remember that Ko of Don Curry... Jermaine would have been knackered with McCallums style...
Mike McCallum would have earned a decision over Jermain, a workmanlike decision, with nothing spectacular happening, but he would have dominated.
I'll take Mike by KO without hesitation, he had some great stoppages of top notch fighters, all of which were better than Jermain.
McCallum would really hurt Jermain. He is so quick and explosive even moreso than Jermain Taylor himself and with better composite punches than Pavlik. I'd say his power is the same if not easily better than Pavlik's. No way Taylor makes it to the end.
i agree with that. watson was a decent technician and hell of a lot better than jermain taylor. mccallum still schooled him
