Agree whole heartedly SS. Thank you. None of the 5 kings ducked Mike McCallum. McCallum would've been a high risk low reward type of fight for any of them , but nothing they couldn't overcome. McCallum was exceptionally skilled. But he wasn't exceptionally powerful, or fast. His skills hid his lack of fast twitch explosiveness. Put him in against a Leonard or Hearns , we'd see the same results as his fight with Jones Jr. Who's athleticism was the difference when the skill level was about equal. In Hagler ( who was always motivated) or Duran, ( if motivated, and in shape) we could see the same results as his battles with Toney. Where again the skills are about equal, but the more aggressive fighter won. In Benitez, McCallum would face a master counter puncher like himself, but better defensively , probably a boring fight, but Benitez could easily win a split decision against him at Jr.middleweight at his best. McCallum is a bitter man, and is always complaining about he was avoided by the 5 kings. But the reality is timing, and money were the primary reasons he didn't get a shot at any of them. Primarily his fault, he didn't do what was necessary for the public to demand a fight against any of them.
