I think McCallum lives up to his nickname in this one. I think Hearns' suspect stamina is made for a man of Mike's specialty. McCallum by UD or late stoppage.
McCallum knew Hearns and Tommy knew McCallum. They used to spar endlessly at Kronk. According to Mike, they each took turns, over time, getting the better of each other, but McCallum took more of them than Tommy did.
I'm leaning towards Mike just because of his ring generalship and his inate ability to slip and counter even long armed fighters like Hearns. Either way its a fight I 'd happily have paid big big money to watch. What a bout it would've been!:bbb
Would of been much more fun at 154lbs in 84/85 or Middleweight in 87/88. At 175 in 94/95 I take Hearns to outpoint The Bodysnatcher in a boring uneventful decision.
Always been one of the hardest to ever pick at 154 for me, last time we discussed it though i'm sure i stated i was leaning towards Hearns, who at that weight, was more complete, mature and composed as a boxer in my opinion.
I think its damn near a pick em. With a gun to my head... I'd pick Hearns by decision. But the possibility of McCallum stopping him late is high.
McCallum is the more durable and well rounded fighter. Hearns carries more power and speed, and is probably a better pure boxer. Tough call.
