I think the same thread was made a few days ago. But I just commented again. One thing about Mike McCallum. The Donald Curry fight was probably the best matchup of 1987 as far as guys in the same level. I loved that fight. I didn't expect the way it ended. Probably Mike's best win,, and a great one. He set that punch up. Just on that win alone I give him a lot of respect because of the way he won it. He was not getting his way in the fight since Donald was faster and landing better combinations, so he was smart enough to see Donald dropping his hands after Donald landed those combinations and he measured it perfectly. I never saw a left hook landed quite like that. If I remember correctly he left his feet to land it.
McCallum was one of the very best ever at 154. That said, in this h2h matchup I think Hearns' jab and whip of a right hand carry him to victory. McCallum's kayo over Julian Jackson in 1986 was something to behold. On the other hand, Hearns vaporizing Duran at 154 in June of 84' left people speechless. Hearns was terrifying that evening. It resembled an execution. Hearns had won a series of decisions and people were starting to call him the "Motor City Cobra" istead of the "Hitman." That night changed him back to becoming once again the hitman. Believe me, no one saw it coming. Duran had went 15 tough rounds with Hagler the previous November. So although I think McCallum was a wonderful fighter Hearns at his best was a slightly higher level of artistry. Hearns by UD. No one knocks McCallum out.
