This was one certain to occur, as they were both up-and-coming Jr. MW's. at about the same time.

Mike McCallum knocks out Tony Ayala but he cant even beat Ray Leonard? That's #@*% crazy!! Have you ever seen Tony fight?

Laxpdx, forget this dude. he dont even know what he's talking about or what day this is. i say 1982 Tony would knock him out because Mike didnt have the experience yet and was very offensive type fighter. No one tries to gun with Tony and survive.

I saw Mike fight live with Sean Mannion and yeah he was good but he didnt have enough of a punch while Tony was the most feared man alive in 1982 along with Hagler and Aaron Pryor.

4 or 5 years down the road it's hard to say because Tony wasn't active while Mike took the best jackson had to offer and mopped the floor with him.

I know it was 1986 and Jackson didnt have much experience while Mike had a few championship fights but I have to give Mike one thing and that is he had durability and some skill. He was what we call "an industrious fighter". I still think he would have lost to Tony in late 82 or early 83 the way jackson lost to Mike.

Just to save bumdujour mucking around who would you say the biggest name Tony ever fought was so he can go straight to the most meaningful bout?

Great insight, but what about down the road, lets say, 1987, and Tony stayed out of jail. Honestly, that's about the time I see this match happening, after Tony has warred with Duran, Hagler and Hearns and Mike is really beginning to make a name for himself. Would Tony be harder or softer?

Terry Norris never beat anyone and still kick the **** out of leonard why cant Tony?? leonard was favored!! dont tell me he wasnt. I know the history of that fight before it even took place.

Tony hit like hell. With Ray leonard need to hit you a hundred times before you finally fall. What's more, Ray Leonard is afraid of getting hit the way Ken Norton was.

Tell me something Bumdujour. If you're so confident of Leonard's chances with Mike then why didnt he just fight him while he had the chance? His eye obviously wasn't the reason and he just faced Hagler and would go on to fight Lalonde in the near future. You think maybe Ray didnt like his chances after seeing the Curry knockout at ringside?

Hitting power is going to decide this and Leonard just dont have the power hence you see Jackson knocking out Terry and Terry's one sided whipping of Ray Leonard. Ray Leonard in nowhere near the caliber Tony was and you havent see Tony fight either. At least not since he came out of prision.

You know I only like the best LAXPDX. My favorites are the best like Hagler, Jones, Camacho, Norris, Bowe-fighters that are proven beyond all doubt.

Only I know the score here with Tony. he is actually very little known the way hagler was when he first became champion. i cant see that far into the future but I can make a better projection of events say three years in the future.

Tony could actually improve by that time because he had Lou Duva and George bention as his trainer, the best in the business so Tony could only get better.

So Tony was definitely on his way to becoming champion and woe be to anyone who stood in his way. Kalule? A helpless punching bag used for Tony's warmup for the title. He would be knocked stiff in three rounds. After that I see him kicking Duran's ass before laing has a chance to get to him.

This man's presence would change the landscape of boxing.

Of course Leonard would duck him so he's irrelevent. After beating the overweight Duran, he heads for Davey Moore instead of Duran and knocks him for a loop without the aid of a thumb.

    Now he's champion.

For his first defense he gives ex-champ Benitez first shot and does a mercy killing-kind of like watching a lion devouring a sheep.

I see a late 1984 matchup between McCallum and Tony. Mike with his skills and durability would set the tone for a few rounds but eventually you know Tony is going to get a full head of steam going and once he connects on Mike's head, the fight's going to turn around. I see Mike lying flat on his back from a devestating left hook to the head.

Tony was like that character the Juggernaut in that once he gains momentum he's almost impossible to stop. I've seen him-he's like a pit bull that doesn't stop his attack. He just stays on him until the other fighter drops. You seen it too Lapdx.

The other posters here don't realize it and besides that they never seen anyone on the attack like Tony Ayala. Tony was fearless because everyone was afraid of his offense.
