Moorer retired after Holyfield II back in 1997, tua did him in 2002. its like Jerry Cooneys KO over Norton as far as how i rate it, Over hyped.
Lewis is an interesting fight, Moorer is a Southpaw who can box, Sure he was chinny but so was Lewis, and they both have power. Tyson is a bad match up for Moorer, so is Sanders Because they can both take a decent shot, and give a huge one. Put Bruno in there along with Seldon (whos jab might give Moorer hell untill he hit Seldon) watch the Big-foot Martin, and the Alex Stewart fights, you have to watch the Stewart fight with the pre fight, makes it more exiting.
Ruiz was 15-2, the only reason he became a title holder twice was Don King, He holds more than Ali, Jack Johnson and Bonecrusher Smith combined, he got the second WBA title by tecnicality, had a loss and a loss and a loss with title shots after each one. Watch Byrd vs Tua, tell me who you think won, i had Byrd winning, but ALOT of people have Tua winning. Ike looked good, and won in his two big fights, But in his other 18 fights against Journymen and Cans he looks so average its untrue.
Tyson would be 4 and I think there's a strong case for Foreman at 5 especially considering he beat him. Maybe Ike at 6, I like his wins over a prime Tua and prime Byrd, over any of Moorer's wins.
Lewis isnt so clean cut tbh, stylisticly being a southpaw gives him advantages, and lewis was chinny aswell and Moorer can bang, I would favour Lewis but it isnt clean cut. Bowe was just too big, hit too hard, and had to good of a chin, The only hope Moorer has is staying away from him and getting a descision, and that is very unlikely. Tyson is like Corrie Sanders and David Tua, basicaly his worst nightmare Moorer Vs Morrison, Ruddock & Bruno are toss ups, Flip a coin in those fights. Early 90's tucker is interesting, it could be another Seldon fight for tucker or he could blow Moorer out. Mercer is a nightmare for Moorer, Mikes whole style is based on getting a KO, and Mercer his whole style and the thing that kept him winning and got him the win over Morrison is the fact he could soak up punnishment and people would think they could KO him, and they would gas and become vulnerable.
I'm well aware of the circumstances, and really Tua had seen better days, also. I see Tua as able to that to Moorer at any time in Moorer's career. Maybe not in the first but sooner or later he would always spark him out.
I'd edge with Bruno and Morrison to beat him personally though it ain't hard to imagine him boxing well and lasting long enough to hurt them in the later rounds or win a decision. But i don't think he'd get out of the first 5 rounds with these two men tbh. Ruddock post Tyson/Lewis i agree is a toss up, i'll go with Moorer's skills here, simply because Razor only looked for the big one. Bare in mind i'm viewing Moorer at his best in these fights because it's highly likely he would doubt himself against these power punchers. I also agree Mercer/Tyson are no-no's for him. Regarding Lewis, for me it is clean cut. While Moorer had good power at HW i don't think he had the heavy hands needed to put Lewis over, and i don't see Moorer avoiding Lewis right hand for long. I don't buy into the Lewis being chinny thing. He got caught with two bombs by body builder types when he's head was elsewhere and in the case of Rahman, he was already hurt and struggling to breath.
Lewis rarely had problems with left handed fighters. In fact, he ate them up regularly. Furthermore, when considering Moorer's weak chin and Lewis's precision punching, size and power, this fight would more likely than not be a mismatch. You did however point out that Lewis's chin was shaky as well. But I think it held up to greater tests than Moorer's did. In addition, in order for Moorer to use this to his advantage, he'd have to land big and early, which is where the stylistic issues pose as an obstacle.
if you score the first holyfield fight for moorer, he's got the best single win between them. a couple of other solid if unspectacular wins (bert cooper, alex stewart), one "reign" as lineal champ and one reign as alphabet title holder may give him the edge. especially if you scored the tua fight for tua, making the byrd knockout his only remotely notable victory
Well I didn't score it for mm. I thought holy beat him. In his very next fight he was knocked out by a dinosaur so inactive it was reported he'd gone extinct. Lineal, alpha, meh. Losing to holy and beatin schulz mean nothing to me. I scored for ike. I can see why some might rank mm above ike but I certainly don't.
Your a ****ing idiot. Holyfield was close to having a heart attack in the ring and you still think hat win is better than a prime Tua or prime Byrd?
I wouldn't call him underrated. As said, he gets his plaudits. He was a good fighter, not in the really top bracket as far as the heavies of his era go, but a good fighter. I would have liked to have seen him against Virgil Hill at some point at light heavy, but it was never seriously entertained at by either camp, as far as I'm aware. I suppose the plan was always to move up to heavyweight.
